Outer Banks Music Showcase (3848 N Croatan Highway): Come celebrate Christmas at the Coast with Santa and the cast of the Outer Banks Music Showcase. Art Gallery at Roanoke Island Festival Park: Billy Brown is a long time Outer Banks waterman who has a passion for NC history. He is a former teacher who loves to paint scenes from the area to include Oregon Inlet vistas he's seen while fishing. His acrylics feature seasonal shots of sunrises and sunsets and landscapes of the area including Bodie Island. He paints underwater fish scenes and anglers. An opening reception will be held on December 7 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. It is free and open to the public. The show can be viewed Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Currituck Heritage Park 2nd Annual Tree Lighting Celebration
Saturday, December 13, 2008 (5pm)
North Lawn at Currituck Heritage Park: See the giant cedar tree in Currituck Heritage Park and the Currituck Beach Lighthouse simultaneously illuminated. Gather on the north lawn to enjoy free hot chocolate and sing carols with the Currituck County High School Choral Ensemble. Following the lighting ceremony, the Whalehead Club will offer complimentary docent-led holiday tours to show off the decorations inspired by the 1920's etchings of Edward Collings Knight, Jr. Alternatively, take a romantic horse-drawn carriage ride snuggled under a fluffy blanket through Historic Corolla Village.

Holiday Piano Concert

Library at The Whalehead Club: Festivities continue in the Library of the Whalehead Club with a Holiday Piano Concert featuring the fabulous voices of the Currituck County High School Choral Ensemble singing holiday favorites. For the second half of the concert be entertained by the amazing talents of local pianist, Sally Copeland Wright. Listen to Mrs. Knight's custom-made Steinway Grand Piano positively come alive as Sally's classically-trained fingers dance across the 105 year-old ivory keys. Tickets for the concert are $35 per person and include a dessert reception during the intermission.

Currituck Heritage Park Winter Educational Series

1100 Club Road (NC Highway 12): The Knapp Legacy in Currituck - Illustrated Program held at the Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education. Joseph P. Knapp, publisher and philanthropist, was one of the most notable figures in Currituck history. Come discover his efforts in wildlife conservation and his co-founding of the Ducks Unlimited conservation group. His contributions to education and schools have forever impacted residents of Currituck County and throughout North Carolina. Cider and cookies will be served.

Roanoke Island Festival Park: Don't let the holiday spirit fade! On Saturday, December 27, come join in the fun as Roanoke Island Festival Park celebrates the third day of Christmas. Visitors to the Park can get a taste of 16th century holiday traditions from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. as they make decorations, learn special dances, sing songs, discover food and drink of the season, and indulge in merriment with members of the Guild of St. Andrew. Many events will be held inside and the celebration will go on, rain or shine. In the Settlement Site visitors can join with the interpreters as they ''recreate'' their celebration in the American wilderness, with simple decorations and a roast over the open fire. There may even be a few more surprises of the season. We'll see you there and wish you Merry Yuletide!

Winter Piano Concert

The Whalehead Club: Sondra Meinhardt and friends will perform classics from the 1920s era as well as holiday favorites. Be mesmerized by the century-old Steinway Grand Piano being played by local artists who will draw out the melodies from the polished mahogany. Tickets are $35 per person or four for $100 and include a dessert reception during the intermission.

1100 Club Road (NC Highway 12): Gary Baker, former Curator of Glass at the Chrysler Museum in Norfolk, VA, will present a program on Louis Comfort Tiffany. Tiffany, unlike his jewelry-making family, became known throughout the world for his innovative and artistic glass-making. Tiffany's contribution to the Art Nouveau movement will be highlighted through the beautiful examples of his glass-work in the Whalehead Club. In addition, Mr Baker will help identify pieces of your personal glass & silver collections. Feel free to bring along some of your favorite pieces for him to look at. Lunch will be served.

Come having read (http://www.currituckbeachlight.com/toilluminate.php) ''To Illuminate the Dark Space'', oral histories of the Keepers of the Currituck Beach Lighthouse, tour the Keepers' house, and listen to Sylvia Payne, who through the generosity of the NC Humanities Council, will present a 45 minute program on preserving family oral histories. 37th Annual Hang Gliding Spectacular

Jockey's Ridge State Park (Milepost 12.5): This is the world's oldest, continuous Hang gliding competition. Hang gliding professionals from all over the world come to the Outer Banks to compete and have fun on Jockey's Ridge State Park. Demonstrations, street dances and awards ceremonies are all features of this spectacular event. Families can enjoy a rock climbing wall, hang gliding simulator, kite making, face painting and a visit by Wil-Bear Wright. A portion of the events proceeds will go to benefit Friends of Jockeys Ridge, a non-profit organization which supports the development of Jockey's Ridge State Park.

This Wednesday family extravaganza kicks off the Kitty Hawk Kites summer long Kid's Day, held every Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Nags Head store, located at Milepost 12.5 in Nags Head.

27th Annual Rogallo Kite Festival

Jockey's Ridge State Park (Milepost 12.5): The Rogallo Kite festival, presented by Kitty Hawk Kites, will continue honoring Francis M. Rogallo, NASA scientist and inventor of the Flexible Wing. This two day festival will feature our signature kite flying on the dunes of Jockey's ridge as well as nightly entertainment celebrating the history of kiting. Throughout the festival, exhibitions and demonstrations, including stunt and power kite lessons, are provided. There will also be free children's games and kite making.

8th Annual ''Under the Oaks'' Art Festival
Wednesday, June 24, 2009 - Thursday, June 25, 2009 (10am - 5pm)
1100 Club Road (NC Highway 12): Enjoy this annual outdoor art show on the grounds of Currituck Heritage Park with over 100 quality artists showcasing a wide variety of media, musical entertainment, food concessions, and children's activities. Admission is free - $5 parking donation requested.

The festival is held from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24 and from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 25.

Kitty Hawk Kites Kiteboarding Competition

Kitty Hawk Kites Kiteboarding Center: Come see some of the best kiteboarders in the world as they show off their personal tricks and skills! Bring a beach chair or blanket and watch the sun set over the Currituck Sound while supporting the musical arts! Snack concessions will be available. Leashed pets are welcome. Admission and parking are free.

July dates for the concert series are July 2, 9, 16, 23, 30. August dates are August 6, 13, 20, 27.

The 17th Annual Independence Day Festival of Fireworks

30th Annual Wright Kite Festival

Wright Brothers National Memorial (Milepost 8): This festival surrounds a spectacular kite show put on by Larger than Life Kites. Come see a 100ft. octopus, 50ft scuba diver and many other kites dance in the air during this jaw dropping event. Stunt kites demonstrations, games, kids kite making, and contests are held throughout both days. Kids can make and fly their kites where flight began. Events begin mid morning and continue through the afternoon.

24th Annual Outer Banks Stunt Kite Competition

Wright Brothers National Memorial (Milepost 8): This competitive fly is on the Eastern League Circuit for sport kite flying and is also sanctioned by the American Kiting Association. Throughout the weekend, non-competitors can enjoy workshops, demonstrations and kite making for kids. The highlights of this event include graceful kite ballet competitions set to music and team flying that blends both kite control and speed.

6th Annual Haunted Corolla Village

Currituck Heritage Park (1100 Club Road/NC Highway 12): Currituck Heritage Park will be haunted for two days. Come and join us for a ghoulishly good time!
