Down Under is a longtime favorite family restaurant on northern Hatteras Island. Adventurous eaters might want to try the Australian specialties, including kangaroo burgers and Aussie-inspired sandwiches. But Down Under is really known for its seafood â€" especially the big, delicious 15-cent shrimp specials offered in the afternoons in the restaurant and through the evening in the upstairs bar. The menu also includes chicken, pasta, steaks and kids' offerings. The view of the sound and sunsets is fantastic, and large parties are welcome. It's open for lunch and dinner.

| Value: | | Service: | | Food: | | | Ambiance: | | | | No more 15 cent shrimp... | | By OBX08 on 7/25/2008 | | ...so be warned. They do have a deal from 12 to 4 for $20+ for all-you-can-eat shrimp, but the days of the 15 cent shrimp are gonesville. This is a great place for Happy Hour, and in the Outer Banks, that could be ANY time! | |

| Value: | | Service: | | Food: | | | Ambiance: | | | | Awfull | | By Bernard Family on 7/11/2008 | Went for dinner with our family. Service was ok and the view of the sound is fine. Kids plate of shrimps and fries is ok (but at 6$ it is a little expensive for what it is...) we shared an INXS platter and I have to disagree with Stacy... this was the worst food I have ever eaten in a restaurant. Especially in a place where seafood should be easy to find and cook... the crabcake was smoky and mushy, the oysters tasted like residues of ashtray and the shrimps were watery and tasteless... The side of french fries was ok (at least they were able to do this) but the side of vegetables was green beans right from a can with cardboard-like bacon in it... awfull! It is the first time I have to spit out the food I'm eating in a restaurant. Avoid this place. | |

| Value: | | Service: | | Food: | | | Ambiance: | | | | Pretty Good | | By Stacy on 7/4/2008 | | Stopped in for dinner with the wife and kids. Wife had the cheeseburger and was more than satisfied with the quality and price. I ordered the INXS Platter and it was very good. I would have liked a little more seafood versus french fries though, especially at $25 for the platter. Service was ok. I would go back again... | |

| Value: | | Service: | | Food: | | | Ambiance: | | Wine List: | | | | Still Good | | By Knicks Family on 7/1/2008 | | We always enjoy a stop at the Down Under. This year they have a great shrimp and crab legs special for about $25. It was a huge platter of food that we shared, for a $2 charge, but still a bargin. Nice waitress and good service. Great for lunch, too. | |

We ordered a take out of the seafood dinner for 5 adults. The lady asked us to repeat ourselves several times. When we got there she charged us the wrong price for everything. When we got home- it was the WRONG dinners. We called, lady said they did not serve dinner til after five. We ordered some lunch, it was not very good! Then the lady had the nerve to ask us to pay for the dinners THAT WE DID NOT ORDER! | |

| Value: | | Service: | | Food: | | | Ambiance: | | | | By annual visitor on 8/16/2007 | | This was a Must Stop place for us when it was on the ocean side by the pier. Don't enjoy it nearly as much since they moved. We used to enjoy watching the water & eating their 10 cent happy hour shrimp. It lost a lot when it moved to the sound side. | |

| Value: | | Service: | | Food: | | | Ambiance: | | Wine List: | | | | By old customer on 6/29/2007 | | We paid $8.00 for cheese stix. No more old bay on the shrimp. The only resemblance to a Australian is some guy walking around from West Virginia. My best advice is have a cook out instead. | |
