If you're not a local, then it might prove a bit more difficult distinguish where Rodanthe ends and Waves begins. On both sides of the town are deep blue waters belonging to the Atlantic Ocean and the Sound. Sitting out on the deck, it appears that you are on an isolated island with nothing but water around. With off-shore winds blowing from the Atlantic across to the sound side, the winds are perfect for water sports. Because of this natural phenomenon, you'll find that Waves offers some of the best windsurfing and kite boarding in the area, let alone the world. Much of this is because Waves is home to the popular public windsurfing launch area.
Individuals began building in Waves years ago, the central town of the tri-village. Yet, as more and more people came to live in this beautiful area, the growth widened vertically to Rodanthe in the North and Salvo in the South because of the beautiful waters on either side. Waterfall Park, a spectacular display of wildlife and water, sees quite an influx of tourists in the summer months. Those looking for great camping find their perfect spot among the foliage and sea. With great restaurants offering many diverse cuisines, from Asian to Dairy Queen, you're never far from a fantastic meal. The beach offers a fantastic stretch of white sands that never get too crowded, even in the summer. Come enjoy all of the wonder that Waves has to offer.
