''We just got back from a couple of nights in the OBX. Normally we stay in a vacation rental, but this time tried FCI - excellent choice on our part! The bedroom and bathroom were very clean (the better half cannot stand a dirty bathroom and even she commented on how clean things were). Everything is well appointed and very cozy.

We go to Nags Head quite a bit -- in the future, I think we'll extend our stay and spend a couple of nights in First Colony Inn before checking into our vacation renta...''

''The Castle has a B&B and then they have villas. One of their villas is across the street right on the harbor. It has a phenomenal view of the harbor and a screened porch to enjoy it. It's the only room they have with a King bed and there's a really nice jacuzzi. Be warned that breakfast is not included though - we misunderstood that from the reservationist. We'll be back next fall....''

''Staying at the Cameron House Inn was the best experience we had on the Outer Banks. The outdoor fireplace on the back porch and the beautiful rooms in the arts and crafts style were great. And in addition to a very nice innkeeper, we were made to feel at home by their wonderful ''porch cats''.

Best of all though was the location in Manteo. Out of the rat race and within walking distance of the wonderful shops and restaurants in the historic district.

''We booked a room here, but the clerk did not write it down, nor run the credit card number provided to her. When we arrived on Saturday to check-in, there were no room available at the Inn. There were no rooms available at all on Hatteras and we were traveling with 2 small children. We were left stranded because of a clerk without any common sense....''

''This is a beautiful place to stay but if you have young kids find another place. The lady that runs the place frequently holds educational meetings or seances there and if the kids are making noise or are not absolutely quiet than you will hear from her.
Since the house is shared with other guests it is important to not let kids get loud or out of control, but this is not always possible. You could bring duct tape to shut them up I guess.
