Review Guidelines
Basic Review Guidelines:

Your review should focus on specific aspects of the business you are reviewing. Do not simply state you liked or disliked the business - be specific.

The best reviews include not only whether you liked or disliked a business' products or service, but also why.

DO NOT TYPE IN ALL CAPS!

Do not mention competing company names in your reviews. Focus on the company you are reviewing, and if you wish, leave a review about the other companies on their directory listings.

Do not comment on other reviews - respect their position and write your own, but do not argue with others.

Do not use profanity or post spiteful remarks.

Do not write a review that is less than 50 words in length. The goal of a review is to share your experiences with a particular company - very short reviews do not accomplish this.

Do not post phone numbers, email addresses or URLs.

Do not post inflammatory reviews - stop and put yourself in the shoes of the owner of the business you are posting about.

Do not post many reviews about one business. Doing this will cause all of your reviews to be deleted.

Remember, you are responsible for your words.

Adding new reviews is currently disabled while we work on launching a new website.

Howard's Pub is definitely worth a stop! A great beer selection and lots of memorabilia on the walls. I had the Carolina Burger which was delicious. My friend had the Ribeye and Oysters Rock which were excellent. They cut their own potatoes for fries too! We found the sevice pleasurable. We will be back.

The Oysters were shameful
By We love Ocracoke on 9/13/2008
We vacation on Ocracoke every year. We always go to Howards for Oysters. This year they were awful. Very small and not shucked well at all. We had shell in every one. What has happened? They don't seem to care about the customers anymore.

not what we expected
By Set Sail on 8/6/2008
We heard for years what a great place this was...an Ocracoke icon. We couldn't wait to get there. When we did, we were pleased with the great atmosphere. The waitress was very unfriendly. We have two kids (8 & 10). She didn't even offer us a kid's menu. We're used to paying for quality. The food was here way overpriced for what we received. It has obviously become a tourist trap. The worst part about it all is that the owner is originally from West Virginia, where we are from. People from WV know better than to treat paying customers like that. I probably won't be going back to Howard's.

not much here
By w.c. on 5/10/2008
I've had a couple bad meals here yet for some reason always keep coming back. The atmosphere is fun, beer list good, and menu pretty extensive- something for everybody(thus main reason for returning), but I just don't think the food measures up. Case in point, I had a crabcake sandwich which was probably as good as a crabcake you would get in Omaha. It had no lump crabmeat, and if I was a betting man I would say it was frozen. Maybe next time I'll try a burger.

We ate at Howard's 3 years ago and looked forward to returning on our vacation this year. The quality of the food has really dropped.

Resting on laurels?
By an NCBeaches Guest on 9/16/2007
HP used to be the best place to eat on Ocracoke. It has become the worst place to dine!!! The service has slipped and the quality of the food is gone. I heard the owner died. Maybe it's been sold. If so, new owner, please don't rest on the laurels of the former owners. Do something to bring back my favorite place to dine and hang on Ocracoke Island!

The prices at Howard's have become way too high! It's not worth the trip anymore. Peak times make it hard to find a good server as well. Expect a long wait and mediocre food!

Best Burgers!
By an NCBeaches Guest on 5/8/2007
When we went on the ferry last year during vacation. We decided to give Howard Pub a try. They have the best burgers I have ever had. They cooked them just right and the toppings were perfect. We're coming back to Avon in June for our wedding, we will be taking the ferry again and you can bet I'll be back for a cheeseburger!!!

Not what it used to be
By orcacoke girl on 5/8/2007
We've been coming to Ocracoke for 30+ years. Each year I'm more dissapointed in the food and value offered by Howard's. I'm not sure what's happened, but I hope it turns around. It used to be a great place to hang out.
