They have local artists, which include whimsical, tropical batik styled paintings; clever nursery rhyme influenced work, and nautical photography. This is the place to find a truly unique Outer Banks souveneir. The prints vary in price, but for those not looking to spend a lot they have postcards of prints and magnets. Yellowhouse has a very interesting room filled antique prints of plant and animal life, some dating back to over 200 years ago. If you're interested in history, they have a vast collection of civil war-era magazine pages and prints. Many of the prints are where Winslow Homer got his start as an artist. They give you an idea of the battles, and the everyday life of soldiers and 1860's culture. Yellowhouse also features antique maps, focusing on the South, and America during the civil war. It's a great rainy day stop, inside the bright yellow store. | |

There were no cars in the lot and it lacked the luster on the outside of some of the glitzier establishments in the area. Luckily, we wandered in anyway and ended up finding not only exactly what we were looking for, but a treasure trove of beautiful peices of art. They also had more peices than many of the other galleries we were in - bins and bins of local artists, watercolors, and beautiful photography. They also have antique maps and photographs that you just cannot find anywhere else. Their prices were extremely fair. Not only did we have the pleasure of browsing through their collections, but the owners were warm and generous and extremely helpful. We are adding this destination to our itinerary each and every time we vacation in the OBX. | |
