Basic Review Guidelines:

Your review should focus on specific aspects of the business you are reviewing. Do not simply state you liked or disliked the business - be specific.

The best reviews include not only whether you liked or disliked a business' products or service, but also why.

DO NOT TYPE IN ALL CAPS!

Do not mention competing company names in your reviews. Focus on the company you are reviewing, and if you wish, leave a review about the other companies on their directory listings.

Do not comment on other reviews - respect their position and write your own, but do not argue with others.

Do not use profanity or post spiteful remarks.

Do not write a review that is less than 50 words in length. The goal of a review is to share your experiences with a particular company - very short reviews do not accomplish this.

Do not post phone numbers, email addresses or URLs.

Do not post inflammatory reviews - stop and put yourself in the shoes of the owner of the business you are posting about.

Do not post many reviews about one business. Doing this will cause all of your reviews to be deleted.

Remember, you are responsible for your words.

Adding new reviews is currently disabled while we work on launching a new website.

doesn't deliver the goods!
By beach bum on 1/10/2009
Will never use Doug Combs' service again. He did not deliver what I asked for and when I called to ask him to get the items I wanted and take back the unwanted items he said it was too much trouble for him so ''just keep the stuff'' I was also told that I would get a refund for the unwanted items. It's 1/09 and I'm still waiting!
Don't use this service!!!!!
(P.S. I believe he also buys store brands to save money and pocket it himself...who can't get Heinz ketchup? He said he could only get Food Lion brand but when I went to Food Lion on Sunday AM there was plenty of Heinz on the shelf!)

Credit Card Fraud
By Guest on 1/5/2009
Douglas Graham Combs (owner of Outer Banks Grocery Stockers) provided the service and then proceeded to never provide our Visa deposit back to us. Stay away. If this has happened to you, you should contact the Nags Head police as they are terrific and extremely interested and helpful.

DO NOT USE
By Bryan on 9/2/2008
Sounded like a great idea, like everyone else I wish I had found this site earlier.

1. Items missing, DC told my wife the cleaning crew stole them.

2. Name brands substituted for generics almost everytime.

3. Charged more that order total without notice.

I tried to talk politely with DC to give him the benefit of the doubt and work this, and all I got was yelling at me and him hanging up on me. Obviously he has been through this exercise before.

Now I have to file a claim with the credit card company. So much for the convenience of it all.

What a mean, nasty, lying, cheating man who preys on people on vacation.

Be very careful

Listen to the Reviews!
By Guest on 9/2/2008
What a total joke. This guy blames everything on ''computer glitches'' - he tried to tell me they don't deliver on Mondays (after the computer sent me a confirmation!) I called him two hours after he was supposed to show up and he acted like it was my problem because of the ''computer'' - right. So, he ''did me a favor'' and went out to shop on his way to a catering event. Very few things were as I ordered. TOTAL RIPOFF - DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE - JUST THROW YOUR MONEY INTO THE OCEAN AND SAVE TIME!!!

Expect to be cheated!
By Guest on 8/5/2008
I ordered groceries from this company to be delivered to our vacation home in the Outer Banks so that we would not have to go to the grocery store on our first night. I was totally disappointed with their service. Here is what you can expect based on my experience.

1. All brand name products ordered will be replaced by generic brands. You will pay the higher price for the cheaper items.

2. Product sizes will be smaller, much smaller, than ordered and you will be charged as ordered. For example, order a 20 oz box of cereal, get one that's only 12 oz.

3. Expect some expensive items to be missing. It seems they hope you will not notice.

4. Expect lots of ridiculous substitutions. I got ''you can't believe it's not butter'' instead of butter and Oscar Meyer chicken/pork weiners when I ordered and paid for Nathan's all beef franks, and too many more problems to list.

4. It took me 2 days to reach them by phone. Their phone number does not take messages so expect to make lots of calls.

5. When I finally reached someone, he was rude, argumentative, and profane, telling me he deals with customers like me all the time. Obviously, he must cheat a lot of his customers. After him yelling at me for 10 minutes (role reversal?) he finally agreed to credit me part of the bill. But it certainly wasn't enough and we still ended up having to head to the grocery store ourselves.

Good luck.

Disappointed and Disheartened
By vacationer on 7/25/2008
The only reason I did not give 0 stars is because it is not an option. The lowest I can give is 1 star. I came upon this site after needing to cancel our vacation and our grocery order. I had attempted to call the company and cancel our order and was concerned after the phone number that they provide on their website said that they were not available. We did find another phone number and called and left a message, but have not received a call back. We have also sent an email, again no response. After reading these reviews, I became even more wary about my order with Outer Banks Grocery Stockers. So I looked into it. They charged our credit card when we placed the order, months ahead of our actual vacation date and prior to actually doing the shopping for our groceries. They also overcharged us and charged more than we ordered. We advised the vacation rental company that we canceled the order and to not let them deliver any groceries. We also advised our credit card company who put a fraud flag on the charge and we had to have our cards canceled and new ones reissued. What a hassle! I appreciate all of the warnings and comments here. I only wish that I had seen them before I placed my order!

I agree with all of the other negative comments. Doug Combs overcharged me by $300!!! for 2 weeks of groceries. I guess he doesn't expect people on vacation to bring the list of stuff they ordered in the hopes of pulling a fast one. When I called to complain about the over charge of $300, Doug said he would credit my card. That never happened - what a surprise. I had to file claims with my credit card company to get my money back. You think you're making your life easier by using a service like this - you're not.

This company is a SCAM
By Susan on 2/28/2008
Is it possible to give ZERO stars?Doug Combs has done business now under two names that I know of: Outer Banks Grocery Stockers and Outer Banks Services. I would not trust any business with which he is affiliated. I purchased a $100 gift certificate from his company to give as a birthday gift. We went online and placed the order in JULY 2007. Here it is February 2008 and he still hasn't delivered the groceries or the refund he promised. He's made many excuses (''hospital for 6 weeks'', ''Europe for 3 months'', ''I put the check in the mail'') but bottom line is it's all a lie. I don't even think he's capable of telling the truth.

Buyer beware
By Scam company on 2/7/2008
Natalie wrote the following and it's 100% accurate

“Do yourself a favor and go to the Better Business Bureau and read this company's report before doing business. They are nice and friendly BEFORE you place an order. After you place it, forget it - they won't return calls, don't answer the phone, ignore emails, etc. They did in the end deliver most of our items, but the most expensive (an $85 picnic basket) did not get delivered.”

Once this company has your credit card it's like Dogs personal bank account. He charges any amount he wants to it for no rhyme or reason. It started before we even we arrived at OBX. Our credit card was hit for over $300.00 we received the same stories that he would fix it the next day. That never happened and he would not return our calls. Eventually he did refund us that portion.

We get to OBX and Doug and his employees start cooking our 1st meal. Doug leaves the house stating “he has to go to another party” he leaves behind two young ladies that can barley speak English. They try and serve us raw chicken. This was not chefs service. This was people that could not cook. When we complained he said he was sorry and he would fix everything. We had a strange feeling that something was not right. We fired him after the 2nd of 5 meals. It was then that he billed our credit card $2,000.00. We cancelled our card and worked with the credit card company to explain the situation.

Since I can't post a link on here if you do a Google search for ''outer banks grocery stockers'' complaint

You will eventually hit a website called segetaway. A very glowing review of this company exists on there with guess who's name Doug Combs. The idiot signed his own name.

Buyer beware this is criminal

I totally agree with all the other reviewers on this company and would have given 0 stars if it was an option. We arrived on a Saturday and had several missing items from our order. We left several messages on Sat and I finally got a hold of Doug on Sunday. He told me that he would not be able to get the missing items to me ''you out of staters need to realized this is busy season. There's nothing I can do about this now - I'm shopping for another family's order.'' When I asked him to refund the tip, delivery fee and cost of the other items, he hung up on me, and we have not heard from him to date. We've left MANY messages and his cell # is now disconnected. Nothing has been refunded and we also had a similar issue with the credit card charges. Our invoice was completely different from what our CC statement says we were charged. We are also pursuing legal counsel re: this matter.

My family had a similar experience to the other reviews. Food was delivered over 3 hours late. Everything had spoiled because they didn't use any ice and had the food in a van without air-conditioning. It was nearly 90 degrees that day. Called Doug, he hung up on me twice and then refused to answer my calls. Then we got a $700+ charge on my credit card. We have filled a formal complaint to the state and are pursuing him legally now.

I have a number of complaints about this service, the last one is the most serious one in my eyes.

1. Placed order on line, the prices were a bit steep, but I thought it was worth the ''service'', and the ''delivery fee waived'' came up. Nice I thought. At the end of placing the order there is a suggestion that you add a tip. I had no problem with that, since there was no delivery fee and added a generous tip. Upon seeing my bill, a $30 delivery fee was suddenly added after I placed the order. I called and Doug said that it was a glitch in his web site and he should have that changed.

2. Arrived at our rental and several items were not delivered. I called Doug again, who apologized and said he was too busy and I should call him back the following day. I tried a couple of times, never reached anyone. I let it go, figuring, I'm on vacation, it's less then $20 worth of un delivered items, and I don't want to waste any more time on this.

3. And this is the most serious complaint. About one month after my return home I was paying bills and noticed that there was a nearly $500 charge on my account from the Outer Banks Delivery Service. I called Doug immediately. He said that I was his second call about this, he had been on vacation, and he would investigate. I also called my bank to let them know there was a fraudulent charge on my account. I eventually did receive a call back from Doug who said that one of his employees had done this, and that he would have my money back in the account the following day. 3 days later I still did not have my money. I called Doug again who said that it could take up to 72 hours for the money to be returned. Not surprising, the money was not returned. I am starting to believe that Doug does not have any employees, Ive never spoken to anyone there other then Doug, and am starting to think that HE is the one that took the $$ out of my account.

Like the other reviewer, I wish I had investigated this company before doing business with them. I can assure you though that I will not let this matter drop and will press criminal charges if needed.

Update: I contacted the Nags Head police department and one of the officers there was able to help me get my money back. If only I could rate the police department here somewhere, I'd give them 10 stars! Thanks Officer Cooke!

Don't do it!!!!!
By Natalie on 9/7/2007
I sure wish I had seen Arthur's review before I used this company. Do yourself a favor and go to the Better Business Bureau and read this company's report before doing business. They are nice and friendly BEFORE you place an order. After you place it, forget it - they won't return calls, don't answer the phone, ignore emails, etc. They did in the end deliver most of our items, but the most expensive (an $85 picnic basket) did not get delivered. I am still trying to get a refund and get them to return messages. The ''under new management'' on their site is misleading since Doug has been there for years and is the only person I've dealt with there. Beware of certain sites that have ''glowing'' reviews as some are written by Doug under the guise of a ''vacationer from VA''.
