Doug Combs overcharged me by $300!!! for 2 weeks of groceries. I guess he doesn't expect people on vacation to bring the list of stuff they ordered in the hopes of pulling a fast one. When I called to complain about the over charge of $300, Doug said he would credit my card. That never happened - what a surprise. I had to file claims with my credit card company to get my money back. You think you're making your life easier by using a service like this - you're not.

| 3 of 3 people found this review helpful: | | This company is a SCAM | | By Susan on 2/28/2008 | | Is it possible to give ZERO stars?Doug Combs has done business now under two names that I know of: Outer Banks Grocery Stockers and Outer Banks Services. I would not trust any business with which he is affiliated. I purchased a $100 gift certificate from his company to give as a birthday gift. We went online and placed the order in JULY 2007. Here it is February 2008 and he still hasn't delivered the groceries or the refund he promised. He's made many excuses (''hospital for 6 weeks'', ''Europe for 3 months'', ''I put the check in the mail'') but bottom line is it's all a lie. I don't even think he's capable of telling the truth. | |

“Do yourself a favor and go to the Better Business Bureau and read this company's report before doing business. They are nice and friendly BEFORE you place an order. After you place it, forget it - they won't return calls, don't answer the phone, ignore emails, etc. They did in the end deliver most of our items, but the most expensive (an $85 picnic basket) did not get delivered.”
Once this company has your credit card it's like Dogs personal bank account. He charges any amount he wants to it for no rhyme or reason. It started before we even we arrived at OBX. Our credit card was hit for over $300.00 we received the same stories that he would fix it the next day. That never happened and he would not return our calls. Eventually he did refund us that portion.
We get to OBX and Doug and his employees start cooking our 1st meal. Doug leaves the house stating “he has to go to another party” he leaves behind two young ladies that can barley speak English. They try and serve us raw chicken. This was not chefs service. This was people that could not cook. When we complained he said he was sorry and he would fix everything. We had a strange feeling that something was not right. We fired him after the 2nd of 5 meals. It was then that he billed our credit card $2,000.00. We cancelled our card and worked with the credit card company to explain the situation.
Since I can't post a link on here if you do a Google search for ''outer banks grocery stockers'' complaint
You will eventually hit a website called segetaway. A very glowing review of this company exists on there with guess who's name Doug Combs. The idiot signed his own name.

We arrived on vacation and everything was waiting on us. I would highly recommend Outer Banks Grocery Stockers to anyone comming on vacation.

| 2 of 2 people found this review helpful: | | Value: | | Service: | | | | By Guest on 11/14/2007 | | I totally agree with all the other reviewers on this company and would have given 0 stars if it was an option. We arrived on a Saturday and had several missing items from our order. We left several messages on Sat and I finally got a hold of Doug on Sunday. He told me that he would not be able to get the missing items to me ''you out of staters need to realized this is busy season. There's nothing I can do about this now - I'm shopping for another family's order.'' When I asked him to refund the tip, delivery fee and cost of the other items, he hung up on me, and we have not heard from him to date. We've left MANY messages and his cell # is now disconnected. Nothing has been refunded and we also had a similar issue with the credit card charges. Our invoice was completely different from what our CC statement says we were charged. We are also pursuing legal counsel re: this matter. | |

Everything had spoiled because they didn't use any ice and had the food in a van without air-conditioning. It was nearly 90 degrees that day. Called Doug, he hung up on me twice and then refused to answer my calls. Then we got a $700+ charge on my credit card. We have filled a formal complaint to the state and are pursuing him legally now.

| 4 of 4 people found this review helpful: | | Value: | | Service: | | | | By Sondra on 9/21/2007 | I have a number of complaints about this service, the last one is the most serious one in my eyes.
1. Placed order on line, the prices were a bit steep, but I thought it was worth the ''service'', and the ''delivery fee waived'' came up. Nice I thought. At the end of placing the order there is a suggestion that you add a tip. I had no problem with that, since there was no delivery fee and added a generous tip. Upon seeing my bill, a $30 delivery fee was suddenly added after I placed the order. I called and Doug said that it was a glitch in his web site and he should have that changed.
2. Arrived at our rental and several items were not delivered. I called Doug again, who apologized and said he was too busy and I should call him back the following day. I tried a couple of times, never reached anyone. I let it go, figuring, I'm on vacation, it's less then $20 worth of un delivered items, and I don't want to waste any more time on this.
3. And this is the most serious complaint. About one month after my return home I was paying bills and noticed that there was a nearly $500 charge on my account from the Outer Banks Delivery Service. I called Doug immediately. He said that I was his second call about this, he had been on vacation, and he would investigate. I also called my bank to let them know there was a fraudulent charge on my account. I eventually did receive a call back from Doug who said that one of his employees had done this, and that he would have my money back in the account the following day. 3 days later I still did not have my money. I called Doug again who said that it could take up to 72 hours for the money to be returned. Not surprising, the money was not returned. I am starting to believe that Doug does not have any employees, Ive never spoken to anyone there other then Doug, and am starting to think that HE is the one that took the $$ out of my account.
Like the other reviewer, I wish I had investigated this company before doing business with them. I can assure you though that I will not let this matter drop and will press criminal charges if needed.
Update: I contacted the Nags Head police department and one of the officers there was able to help me get my money back. If only I could rate the police department here somewhere, I'd give them 10 stars! Thanks Officer Cooke!

Do yourself a favor and go to the Better Business Bureau and read this company's report before doing business. They are nice and friendly BEFORE you place an order. After you place it, forget it - they won't return calls, don't answer the phone, ignore emails, etc. They did in the end deliver most of our items, but the most expensive (an $85 picnic basket) did not get delivered. I am still trying to get a refund and get them to return messages. The ''under new management'' on their site is misleading since Doug has been there for years and is the only person I've dealt with there. Beware of certain sites that have ''glowing'' reviews as some are written by Doug under the guise of a ''vacationer from VA''.
