A father-son partnership established this eatery in the 1930s as a spot where fishermen could get a rib-sticking breakfast before heading out onto the high seas. Today, it's a deliberately downscale, endlessly raffish place that has attracted most of North Carolina's leading, and most notorious, politicians -- as well as locals who like the quintessentially funky Outer Banks vibe. There's a convivial bar area where old salts and young beauties alike mingle, and a series of pinewood banquettes where copious portions of well-prepared seafood are always in demand. Come here for hefty doses of local color, a sense of folksy authenticity, and food items that include marinated tuna steaks served either as a platter or as a sandwich, she-crab soup, fried locally caught oysters, crab cakes, and burgers. This is an early-to-bed kind of place. The last food order is accepted here at 10:00 p.m., and the bar closes shortly thereafter.

Review Guidelines
Basic Review Guidelines:

Your review should focus on specific aspects of the business you are reviewing. Do not simply state you liked or disliked the business - be specific.

The best reviews include not only whether you liked or disliked a business' products or service, but also why.

DO NOT TYPE IN ALL CAPS!

Do not mention competing company names in your reviews. Focus on the company you are reviewing, and if you wish, leave a review about the other companies on their directory listings.

Do not comment on other reviews - respect their position and write your own, but do not argue with others.

Do not use profanity or post spiteful remarks.

Do not write a review that is less than 50 words in length. The goal of a review is to share your experiences with a particular company - very short reviews do not accomplish this.

Do not post phone numbers, email addresses or URLs.

Do not post inflammatory reviews - stop and put yourself in the shoes of the owner of the business you are posting about.

Do not post many reviews about one business. Doing this will cause all of your reviews to be deleted.

Remember, you are responsible for your words.

Best Seafood on the east coast
By Guest on 6/30/2008
We've eaten at many plces at many beaches. This is our favorite of them all. The long lines are a testament to that consensus. Good prices, great service. Definitely a small hole-in-the-wall beach joint. Just perfect for the best seafood.

Quite often long waits just to get breakfast. If you love the smell of bacon, drive around this place in the morning.
If you don't mind greasy breakfasts, then it is your joint. Staff always rushed.

Great breakfast, lunches and dinners - not fine dinning - but great food and fun, a must stop for anyone in the area.

I recently ate at this restaurant and got the fried flounder sandwich. I found 3 small bones and the fish tasted like rubber. I got very sick for about 3 days. I have to say though, the waitress was very nice. I will not be taking my family there ever again!

Good food! Great atmosphere! Service was also good being they were so busy. I always like to find a good local spot and this place is about as local as it gets. A must on the Banks.

Seriously nice people work here! We were in for an unscheduled maintenance week at the beach house and had breakfast there almost every day. (so you know the food was good!) By the end of the week we felt like locals, that's how kindly they treated us! I agree, you gotta try the eggs benedict...sooo good!!

January 20, 2006 A Locals eatery
By a Guest Reviewer
Nothing fancy, a place many locals eat and hang out at. The food is great, and unlike most restaurants on OBX, this one is open year around. All the way down the beach south but it's worth the ride, especially when you want to get a real beach feel and leave Duck to the Duckites. And it is right across from the beach. One of our yearly stops when down here.

It's tradition. Every year on the way to Ocracoke we stop for breakfast. Always busy, always friendly and awesome Bloody Mary's! Oh and the omelets are good too...LOL.
