The location is very good! Could not have been at a better restuarant for a great meal! David Phillips Wilmington, NC

The next time I go to the beach I will be eating there as many times as my husband will let me. We went in for lunch and they had this crab soup? stew? it was like a dip served in a bread bowl. I loved it!!! I thought that their cheesesticks were pretty good when my hubby got them. I recall thinking the tea had something to be desired.. This reminds me a lot of the little hometown restaurants that you will find in small towns.

Last visit 3rd week in Sept. 2008. First of all they have the best coffee Nags Head (Wilkins I believe). Also they have some very inexpensive breakfast specials as well as a great buffet. They also have the best pancakes I have ever eaten and are as big as anything you have probably seen. This is definitely ''down home'' cooking at it's best and a good value. It's so popular you may have to wait a few minutes to get seated (contrary to other reviews), but it seems to turn over quickly. Wait staff is local and very friendly and efficient. Highly recommended.

I think it is a cheesy version of a higher class restaurant with the higher class prices. Food was not very good. I think $7.99 for 5 SMALL cheesesticks that didn't taste good is outrageous. The grilled chicken breast looked and tasted like something you would get in a hospital cafeteria. However, the waiter was very nice and he gave us tips on the weather and the area. He was a local and very nice. I was a little disappointed though that after telling him that I didn't like the cheesesticks that he didn't offer to take them off the bill. Most restaurants back home (Morgantown, WV) would have.

To our surprise, the parking lot was almost empty. After we ate our $33 dollar ($10 a head) breakfast buffet, we quickly figured out why. The Dunes has greatly scaled back their menu items on the buffet and their food quality has hit bottom. The ubiqutious scrambled eggs and bacon are still there, but gone are the cereals, bagels, cream-cheese, and english muffins, etc.
The eggs were over-cooked and the bacon was under cooked. The fresh fruits were not very fresh.
Day after day, the Dune's parking lot failed to produce last year's (2007) traffic jams. I guess the locals have already figured out, that the Dunes is cutting costs and sacrficing quantity and quality. What a shame...

If you go in the summer for breakfast, be prepared to wait for a little while, but it's worth it. I cannot say I have eaten dinner here.. but it's probably pretty good judging from the breakfast!

The portions were huge, and they had the best hushpuppies that I have ever eaten. The salad bar was great and was a great addition to my meal. Definitely going back there.

We ate for lunch & dinner. First I had the clam strips, they were something like $14.99. I didn't think it was worth it. They tasted like popcorn shrimp. I mean if I paid $7.99 it would be worth it but not $14. The second time I went, I got the all-you-can-eat salad bar. It was $5.99 & just ok. It didn't have a lot of choices. I honestly wouldn't recommend it unless you want to try their breakfast.

This is the place! | | By an NCBeaches Guest on 6/3/2007 | | The Dunes is the place to go for breakfast. They have a huge breakfast bar and delicious food. Plus they have a neat gift shop. A Nags Head vacation is not complete without eating out at the Dunes.

I had breakfast here this morning and it was a treat. Their sugar cured ham is tender, Smokey with a hint of sweet. I also had scrambled eggs and hotcakes all for under $5 and with great service. What a deal!
They also have a huge breakfast bar with hot cakes, grits, breakfast meats and fruits. (Much more, but hey I am just going to tell you about my breakfast!) Check it out for yourself. This was a bargain.

Plan on this being your only food stop for the day if you eat at the buffet, it will fill you up with really good food
