| Value: | | Service: | | Food: | | | Ambiance: | | | | Disappointed | | By digitscd on 7/2/2008 | | Had a long wait and then the service was excruciatingly slow. Even to get the bill. All the food was overcooked, tasting like it was just zapped. No finesse with the cooking and for the price it should have been. Shrimp tasted frozen. Bland and stale. Plus the place was dirty. They had a sign about bugs due to the smoke from a fire but that didn't make it any better. Disappointed. People were nice though. | |

| Great food | | By SS on 6/13/2008 | | This is a favorite spot for us. Can't go wrong w/choices. Very good food. Not fancy, but nice piece of history. Try the pizza! | |

Heard good things about the pelican from a few but clearly my biggest dissapointment on the beach so far. Chicken and pastry was absolutely awful. Pastry was uncooked dough. Spent our time seperating skin, cartliage, knuckles and bones. By the time I was done looking for chicken I was mad but couldn't find any staff upstairs to complain to. I went on an expedition to find someone to help. I got a ''sorry bout that'' and then the bill was brought to our table. I was furious and embarrassed. I never walked on a tab but I feel like a sucker since I paid. My advice is keep driving. It was so bad I wouldn't go back to let them try again.

| Value: | | Service: | | Food: | | | Ambiance: | | Wine List: | | | | THE BEST | | By Melanie on 10/18/2007 | | I have been experiencing the Black Pelican since I was a little girl, many summers were spent in the Outer Banks of NC! The pizza is the best, ever. And is always a stop on the way in and out! Now most people go for the seafood, but families travailing with picky eaters, this is a much favored rest. The seafood is great, and I know my grandpa loves the wine. But how many places serve kids' pizzas on a Frisbee? Where you can run to the sandy beach and play a game before loading back into the car? THE BLACK PELICAN IS THE BEST!!!! | |

| Value: | | Service: | | Food: | | | Ambiance: | | Wine List: | | | | Too much volume | | By Sea Voice on 9/20/2007 | | Just too many diners. Quality isn't there. Way too slow clearing tables, which contributes to lengthy waits. Disappointing experience in September 2007. Ordered a grouper dish and the waiter arrived with a salmon substitution without telling us first. We declined it. Lump crab cakes were nowhere near lump. Mainly claw meat. Steer clear until they get things back under control in the kitchen. | |

| Value: | | Service: | | Food: | | | Ambiance: | | | | lousey | | By gayle on 9/4/2007 | We'd heard good reports of the Black Pelican, so we were willing to wait over 1 ½ hours for our meal while sipping margaritas outside on the deck. (The restaurant does not accept reservations.)
Imagine our shock when we finally received our meal: appetizers of tough, underbattered calamari, followed by a very tough steak (cooked medium rare) which was the special of the evening and coconut crusted scallops which were RAW and cold on the inside. We'll never visit this restaurant again. There are so many other good choices in the Outer Banks.

| Value: | | Service: | | Food: | | | Ambiance: | | | | Disappointment! | | By Cristina Hautman on 8/21/2007 | | Went here for dinner with a group our first night in Kitty Hawk. The food was overpriced and disappointing. Coming in from Chicago, I would have expected fresher and better seafood than I was able to obtain at home. This was unfortunately not true. | |

The food was superb!! I really enjoyed working with the catering director and the staff at my wedding could not have been any better. I would recommend to anyone getting married in the Outer Banks...call Black Pelican Catering.

| Value: | | Service: | | Food: | | | Ambiance: | | | | Yummy! | | By Christi on 7/10/2007 | | Fast, Great Service. Make sure you try their seafood pizza. It is too good. Too full for dessert, but they looked to die for. | |

Some of the best seafood I have ever had. Expect a wait, because all the locals go to eat here! Great value for your money and delicious desserts!

| Value: | | Service: | | Food: | | | Ambiance: | | | | Good Food, trivia lacking | | By a Guest Reviewer | | Went for their NTN trivia, which was only located at the bar and only on one screen. Don't believe anyone in the restaurant was actually playing trivia. The food was great though and the cost reasonable. Would definately recommend. | |

| Great place to eat.. | | By a Guest Reviewer | | food is not bad, high priced though. Great staff, very friendly and attentive. | |

| Nice place, a lil pricey though. | | By a Guest Reviewer | | I live right up the street from these guys and love their pizzas and seafood. Nice atmosphere, great for a slightly more quiet evening. While they do take good care of you, it is priced for tourists so expect to pay a little bit. Entrees are around $18+. | |

| Not Great but good enough | | By a Guest Reviewer | | I went here with a couple of FRAT brothers for some drinks and food. The atmosphere is very bar like but the food makes up for it. Great for couples and tourists. Check it out if you are in the OBX! | |
