I didn't expect to find a great deal right on the beach, but the Quality Inn far exceeded my expectations. The room was clean and in great condition, the staff was very courteous and friendly, the view of the ocean was incredible, and I didn't even break my budget. We did go just before the beginning of the tourist season, and many of the rooms were being renovated (new carpet, furniture, and fixtures). Now I want to go back not just for the experience of the ocean, but to try out the new rooms!

I loved how close they were actully to the ocean. The location was wonderful (shops and food close by- Kill Devil Grill was great!) The staff could get me anywhere by knowing or finding the location out for me. I will most certainly go there again!

Be advised, there are actually two parts to this hotel : a newer building they call ''four seasons'' and the older part, where our family of four recently stayed. It was great to be able to literally walk out our door and be on the beach. However, several problems: our room keys did not work; 4 times I had to walk back to the office (down stairs, no elevator) and have them re-set or replace keycard, then back upstairs. Every time they had a different excuse, none of which made any sense. They just didn't work! One of those times was about 11:00 at night, coming home with 2 tired kids, and not able to get in our room, and having to walk down and back up. VERY frustrating, and like I said, no reasonable explanation or apology. I heard at least one other person there saying they also had that problem with the keycard. Also, they were ripping up and replacing carpet in the hall outside our door - why they should feel that is necessary in the middle of peak season, I don't know. But very noisy and smelly from the glue and new carpet, and for a while we actually could not get out of our room because they were at our door! And when we did get out, had to deal with wet glue, nails, various tools laying about. Also, there were no pool towels for three days, until I asked for some. There was a cabinet at the pool deck where they should be, just no towels in it. Pool was ok, although I'm glad my kids are too big for the kiddie wading pool, it looked pretty dirty. Oh, and our room had an advertisement for the local YMCA, saying this place was a member and we could go there for free; however when I asked, they said they only have 10 passes each day, first come first served------how can they advertise that, when they have over 400 rooms and only 10 passes a day? Other complaints : sheets too small and kept popping off the bed; stains on carpet, mold in shower. Typical complaints I think especially in this beach area where things are pretty laid-back, and for an older hotel. I did not expect 5-star amenities and service; but at least I should be able to get in and out of my room, and not have to step over construction workers! Price was OK, no great bargain.
