The Breakwater at Oden's Dock is a local favorite. The second-story restaurant and bar overlook the harbor and its stone breakwater, from which the restaurant gets its name. The view of the sound and the sunsets is breathtaking, making this a popular dinner choice. The restaurant serves dinner only, with a menu featuring creative, contemporary preparations of seafood, prime rib and other meats, and pasta. The fresh-baked bread and desserts are delicious. Some children's dishes are offered as well. Live acoustic entertainment is offered on the deck on some summer evenings.

| Value: | | Service: | | Food: | | | Ambiance: | | Wine List: | | | | By Jaime on 8/26/2008 | | The Breakwater Restaurant is my favorite restaurant, although I only get to eat at it once a year. My family and I look forward to coming to Hatteras and eating there. My husband tried the seafood stew for the first time, he loved it. I was pleased with the ribeye with sauteed peppers and mushrooms. I've had it before and it seems to get better each year! If you go there, we recommend the stew, ribeye, and all the seafood. I believe most are locally caught along the Outer Banks. | |

| 1 of 1 people found this review helpful: | | By an NCBeaches Guest on 7/5/2008 | | The quality of the food in this restaurant has gone so downhill! The fish was so so, the steaks tasted funky and were tough, not the same place by any means. Very disappointing. Even the fried seafood is more greasy than in the past. Very sad. | |

Although you can count on the ''Fat Daddy Crabcakes'' to appease, many of the entrees lack the pizazz of the past. Certainly worth the trip though.

They were very busy, but the service was good. Steak Oscar was delicious, and large portion of it. The crabmeat was very fresh and piled to the top. Great place; we will go back next time we are in Hatteras.

Promised a table for 6 in 20 minutes. When that turned into over an hour and we spoke to the manager, we were ''invited'' to find another place to eat. We've made the Breakwater our last night out in Hatteras for over 10 years--never, ever again.

As we ate and talked we were able to enjoy the views of the Atlantic. Davin L. Berrier

The outside is crispy and it comes with a pineapple jalapeno salsa! So good, and the filet oscar is superb! The cooks take pride in their food!
