A unique museum dedicated to preserving and interpreting the rich maritime history of The Outer Banks and the 1,000 known shipwrecks that rest off its' coast. The maritime heritage and shipwrecks of the North Carolina Outer Banks are vital resources for understanding local, regional, and national history. Long ignored, this legacy is in danger of being lost forever. It is imperative that this rich past be preserved and interpreted for present and future generations.

| Value: | | Service: | | | | Fantastic Day | | By an NCBeaches Guest on 5/5/2012 | Much more than I expected. The exterior is made to be like a hull of a ship and the moment you enter, you are surrounded by everything maritime.
Even hard to please kids were impressed with the pirates section. The Civil War section was a hit as well.

The main attraction here is the full Fresnel lens on display. Since only a portion of the museum is open, it takes about 30 minutes to go through it. The admission is free.
