Bubba's hickory-smoked Carolina barbecue has a loyal following. Maybe it's because of Bubba's original sauce, or maybe it's the way they slow-cook the ribs, pork, beef, turkey and chicken. The fried chicken is also a hit. Be sure to save room for homemade dessert. Eat in, carry out and catering are available, and delivery is offered from the Frisco location.

Basic Review Guidelines:

Your review should focus on specific aspects of the business you are reviewing. Do not simply state you liked or disliked the business - be specific.

The best reviews include not only whether you liked or disliked a business' products or service, but also why.

DO NOT TYPE IN ALL CAPS!

Do not mention competing company names in your reviews. Focus on the company you are reviewing, and if you wish, leave a review about the other companies on their directory listings.

Do not comment on other reviews - respect their position and write your own, but do not argue with others.

Do not use profanity or post spiteful remarks.

Do not write a review that is less than 50 words in length. The goal of a review is to share your experiences with a particular company - very short reviews do not accomplish this.

Do not post phone numbers, email addresses or URLs.

Do not post inflammatory reviews - stop and put yourself in the shoes of the owner of the business you are posting about.

Do not post many reviews about one business. Doing this will cause all of your reviews to be deleted.

Skip this place!!
By Dreamin of OBX on 2/13/2009
My family and I ordered takeout from Bubba's during out last visit to OBX. We will never go back to this place. The food was really bad. We were very dissapointed. We won't be going back during our next vacation.

The locals call is a ''tourist trap''
By Micky on 1/6/2009
We made a mistake and ate here once. The place was grimy, the food bland, the price inflated, and the service mediocre. My friend, a native of Kinnakeet, laughed when I told him we had dinner there, saying, ''I wish you had told me you were going- it is a tourist trap, no one local eats there, it is so bad.''
We had different items on the menu- my sister had the beef, my dad had the pork, and I had the turkey. None of us finished our sandwiches- and we are all hearty eaters. The bbq was very bland.

Dreadful food
By Cecile on 11/3/2008
Well I should have read the reviews first as I usually do. The food was dreadful. My husband had the pork and it was tasteless. I had the beef BBQ and there was so much fat that I could not take more than a few bites. I picked through to find real meat and found so little I threw it away. Also the BBQ was bland. I did not think there was any way that coleslaw could be ruined. I was wrong. Don't go. Don't waste you're money. Other restaurants in town will serve you well. The person at the counter was nice and helpful but she could not make up for the food which is also an element of the service.

Terrible
By mariah on 8/30/2008
Believe everything you read before this post. The food was horrible. We all had chopped pork sandwiches, thinking they would be like pulled pork sandwiches...Not. Dry, greasy, cat food looking meat. Bad, just bad. We threw ours out in the trash too. Came home and opened a can of beans instead. Very disappointing place.

Worst ''food'' money can buy
By J Buffett on 8/12/2008

We ate at Bubbas 20 yrs ago when I was a teen. It was sooooooooo bad my parents joked about it for years. Down in the OBX with my kids, we just had to try it. After 20 years...it had to be better.

It is the WORST food I have ever eaten. The BBQ sauce is turpentine and Heinz 57 mix. The ''BBQ'' is the WORST!!! After about 4 bites we threw it all in the trash!!!

If Bubbas depended on repeat buiness, they would be out of buiness in 90 days!!!!

Tourist trap
By Mr Abdo (Frisco, North Carolina) on 8/7/2008
Overpriced bad food. Original owner sold the place 2-3 years ago and it slid down hill like the jamacian bobsled team. All they are doing now is living off the good name that was built in the past as long as they can. Please sell it to someone who cares and will bring the buisness back to what it was ( good food good service and people who speak english, also the desserts!)

Never Again
By chemcoman on 8/6/2008
This place was the worst. The food was beyond disgusting. The place was filthy!
The bar-b-que sauce was a mix of ketchup, molasses and water(gross would be an understatement).
We spent $45 for 2 adults and 2 young children. We walked out when the hundreds of ants began crawling all over the table top and onto our plates and our bodies.
We cannot bear to glance over when driving by this place. The thought of the experience is to terrible to remember.

BBQ Gone Wrong
By Ryan Lucas on 8/5/2008
We have eaten here in the past, and found the food to be great - perfect Southern BBQ. Yesterday, we traveled to the orginal Bubba's in Frisco, only to be disappointed and disillusioned. The ribs were extremely greasy and fatty with little sauce. We ordered our food to go, and when it came out on trays we nicely reminded them that our order was to-go. She promptly handed us some bags and some carry out boxes. The cole slaw should have been thrown out days ago as it smelled bad. Gone are the wonderful desserts! Don't waste your time or money on this place. As someone else already wrote it's not the Bubba's of the past - obviously bought out by someone and changed for the worse.

Worst Dining on Island

Terrible experience. Portions were small, making a meal for large extended family very expensive. BBQ not good at all - tasted like it was cooked somewhere else.

Gone Downhill
By BBQ Fan on 7/5/2008
Awful. Just...awful. Our bbq sandwich was horribly bland (chopped pork) and they really skimped on the coleslaw. Our sandwich came with tortilla chips; since when has traditional bbq been served with tortilla chips?

Our cashier was rude. She was grumpy and rolled her eyes at us. Then, she left and went outside to sit on a car with her boyfriend.

Not good at all. What a disappointment.

This isn't the Bubba's that you remember.

This place is awful. Stay away, unless you want to sit in a dirty restaurant, without air conditioning, and pay way too much money to eat dry, flavorless BBQ.

Went there on the first day at obx. Over priced and worst food I have eaten and a long time. Pulled pork tasted like it had soy sauce in it and killed my stomach. We won't eat there again.

Dirty and BAD food
By an NCBeaches Guest on 6/22/2008
Our first night at OBX and we made the mistake of eating Bubba's. The food was terrible, and very expensive. Noone spoke passable english and got our order wrong twice. The place was diety and run down. We ended up wasting half the food. Would NOT eat here again if it was the last place in town!

Bubba you are dead to me!
By Mike on 5/28/2008
I've been to Bubba's about 4 years ago and I thought the food was quite good... Unfortunately it seems Bubba sold his good name to new ownership. I should have known something was a miss when we were offered Bubba's new Mexican kitchen menu. However I stuck with traditional BBQ... What a colossal mistake... The food was undiscernable between sliced pork, pulled pork or chopped pork. Prices ridiculous for dog food... 75 cents for a glass of tap water, $3.75 for a large drink. $41 for 2 sandwiches and a taco salad. If you have a hunger for bad service and horrible over priced food then this is your last stop.

By Sally on 5/20/2008
Your going to need it if you order the chicken. OMG that food was DISGUSTING. The fried chicken looked and tasted like they started the deep fry process a week ago. The place was FILTHY, the service was terrible. DO NOT EAT HERE! PS - want a laugh -- check out the vending machines. The m&ms are from the turn of the century. YUCK.

well, we read all the little newspapers you gather at food lion to see whats going on on the island while you are there. several places we saw ''best bbq on the island'' (i guess since its practically the only place there is not much to compare it to) $40 for a meal for 4 and much much disappointment later, i wished i had just fixed our original planned spaghetti dinner at our rental house. we live close to the bbq capital of NC (woo hoo! lexington nc and the bbq festival!) and i would be ashamed to even tell anyone i ate here. the tea was rancid, they do not stock lids for their cups (i swear that is what the lady told me), and the bbq was atrocious. i am not even going to merit this review w/ stars. they deserve negative 5! horrible! please dont waste your money!!!!!

Nasty & Overpriced
By tdgh1967 on 11/5/2007
We went for a quick lunch. What we got was footlong hotdogs, shriveled up on dried out buns with slaw and cheese. Fries and onion rings were good but not worth the $30.00 for three people!!

The fried chicken was sub-par (cooked way too long). I was looking for authentic eastern NC bbq- Their bbq was good enough, but it's not what I'm used to when looking for authentic (eastern) NC bbq.

By Natalie on 9/4/2007
How hard is it to screw up a burger? Evidently not so hard based on the horrible ones they serve at Bubba's. As another poster said, the onion rings are good, but everything else tasted horrible. Expensive for the quality of food served.

They call this BBQ?
By LoveTheCoast on 4/29/2007
I don't know what they're serving, but it certainly is not NC BBQ. It's dry and has the consistancy of something that was cooked a week ago. Breakfast wasn't much better (there's almost nowhere to eat breakfast in the off-season, and Bubb'a in Frisco is one of those few choices).

Prices are waaaaaaay too high for the quality of food and level of service. I haven't heard of too many locals eating here, but after three tries over the course of the last two years, I know we won't be back.
