Buoy's Restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, and its large menu will please everyone in your crowd. It's a nice restaurant with an upscale atmosphere, but it's casual enough to bring the kids. Lunch features salads, soups, appetizers, seafood plates, lunch plates and sandwiches. At dinner there are more seafood entree offerings, steamed seafood, beef and chicken, house specials and a kids' menu. The salads are fresh and original, and the appetizers are imaginative. Beer and wine are available, and brown-bagging is permitted.

Fresh flowers on the tables, friendly service, Excellent Potato Skins, dinners were large, hot, tasty and moderately priced for OBX. Don't miss this meal!! Crab cakes are as good as they get on the east coast. This place is an older facility and suffers from being a bit frilly for the fishermen types, but it suits families and couples quite well.
Try the tiny curio shop in the adjacent shopping center for some interesting things after dinner.

My daughter ordered the whole rack despite being cautioned by the waitress that she would probably be happy with a half or even a quarter rack. These were large meaty ribs, actually a whole slab instead of just a rack, that were sliced and covered the large plate from one end to the other about 3-4 deep. We brought most of them home. I had the usual seafood platter, which was nearly more than I could finish and which included the best crab cakes I'd had on the trip. These were mainly crab instead of mostly breading and the fried fish was very good.

I mean, it's certainly not bad, but I don't consider it ''signature'' either. My wife enjoys talking with the owner/chef and she thinks most of the items are the best thing since sliced bread.

Their service is great, and the menu is excellent. I have never had a bad meal there. One of the few Hatteras Island restaurants with lobster on the menu. They have a great variety of steak, seafood, chicken and more to suit everyone's taste. The complimentary hushpuppies are excellent as well!
