For a real adventure and to take in the natural beauty of Hatteras Island, ride a horse and explore trails through the Maritime Forest on the Outer Banks. Equine Adventures guides you through Buxton Woods, the NC Coastal Reserve and the National Park Service. They offer a 2 hour guided tour and 30 minutes of that time is on the beach where riders can walk or trot along the water's edge.

Reservations are required and they do book up early in the summer months so it is a good idea to call early. Note that riders must be at least 12 years old and there is a weight limit of less than 250 lbs. Both of these requirements are strictly enforced.

Carriage rides are also offered by Equine Adventures, and are perfect for weddings and special occasions. Carriage rides offered daily, call for hours and locations.

If you get the chance you should take advantage of it! I have always wanted to ride a horse on the beach. It was a great experience!

My dream come true

I absolutely loved riding on the beach. It was a wonderful, long ride and it was a dream come true for me to canter along the beach.

Don't hesitate! If you don't ride horses or if you don't want to miss out on the unique activity of riding a horse around this beautiful island, just do it!

The ocean ride was worth it!

The best part about this adventure was the riding time along the ocean's shore. It was a nice long ride through the woods, but nothing beats trotting and cantering down the beach!! :)
