The Mad Crabber is a local's favorite for hanging out with a cold beer and a great seafood meal at a reasonable price. Four different types of crab legs are offered, and the menu also highlights fish and shrimp, pasta, a vegetarian platter, burgers, steak and delicious sides. The Mad Platters, overflowing with a mountain of steamed seafood, are famous. Kids' offerings are available, and there's a game room to keep them entertained. Dinner is served nightly in season. Ask about special sushi, lobster and karaoke nights.

| Value: | | Service: | | Food: | | | Ambiance: | | | | Best seafood on the beach! | | By Dad at the beach on 6/11/2008 | | My wife and I took our three kids here for dinner. Great food, decent price, great staff. My son(15) ate crab legs and shrimp forever. I had the scallops and they were melt in your mouth good. My daughter(8) had the crab cake and loved it. My little girl (5) loved the shrimp as well. My wife thought the crabs and chowder were great. The kids got to draw on the paper tablecloth and the staff hung it up on the wall for them. Why pay $100 more per plate for china? | |

So they may seem pricey but you get sooo much. They have the best staff, everyone was so friendly and attentive. Everyone in the place seemed happy and I heard lots of compliments from tables around us. Can't wait to come back for more. Check out the Mad Platter and the Grilled Sea Scollops...YUMMY! Definetly a fun place.

I still think the crab legs are overpriced but... we still go. The side dishes are good. The scallop appetizer was great, and the kids enjoy the pool table and games.

We live in central NC. We had no idea what to try so we decided on the Mad Crabber. The food was wonderful! The staff was great & the food was awesome. I got the krab legs off of the kids menu. It is a half pound of crab legs for $8. We thought it was a really good deal. It will be a little expensive but no more expensive than eating anywhere else in the Outer Banks. you should deffinatley try it. :]

Best food in the Outer Banks. It is one reason that we keep coming back. See you soon Mad Crabber.

Very expensive for mid-quality. Hate to spend so much to eat off of paper - not even good paper. Felt ripped off. Went to a different restaurant and spent less for better food and got china. Won't give it another try.

We decided to eat at Mad Crabber again and it was even better than the first time! The staff are all very friendly and seem to want to please you. The soup of the day today, a seafood soup in a thick chowder broth, was like nothing I've ever had before. Yum! We left there so full this evening. This may be our favorite place to eat in Avon.

The service was friendly and fast and the food was delicious! Great seafood, great atmosphere, great music, clean... Better than anywhere else we've eaten in Avon so far. Little wait for a table but it was worth it.

The Seafood combo for 2 is amazing - huge amount of food, done just right. Now, if only I could develop a taste for crawdads.

It definitely is not fancy and is just a good ol' crab shack... who cares if you're served on plastic plates if the food is good?

| 2 of 5 people found this review helpful: | | By Scotty on 4/24/2007 | | When you pay 27+ for food, you expect more than a plastic plate or pizza pan for your food... | |

Trust me! | |

| 3 of 3 people found this review helpful: | | Best place to go for OBX seafood | | By a Guest Reviewer | | One of my favorite places on the outerbanks. A great big platter of crab, muscles, clams, oysters and more with a bag to put the shells in. What more can you ask for! Draw on the tables and have a great time. All parties, large and small, are welcome at this locally owned seafood house. The people are great! One of the reasons we come back to Hatteras. Our vacation wouldn't be the same without the Mad Crabber. If you only eat out once on the outerbanks, make it this one! Pricing is pretty good. I had a whole lobster with clams and scallops for $26.95. The platter of seafood is the best choice, it's around the same price range but worth every penny. You won't go away hungry and you'll probably come back! | |
