Basic Review Guidelines:

Your review should focus on specific aspects of the business you are reviewing. Do not simply state you liked or disliked the business - be specific.

The best reviews include not only whether you liked or disliked a business' products or service, but also why.

DO NOT TYPE IN ALL CAPS!

Do not mention competing company names in your reviews. Focus on the company you are reviewing, and if you wish, leave a review about the other companies on their directory listings.

Do not comment on other reviews - respect their position and write your own, but do not argue with others.

Do not use profanity or post spiteful remarks.

Do not write a review that is less than 50 words in length. The goal of a review is to share your experiences with a particular company - very short reviews do not accomplish this.

Do not post phone numbers, email addresses or URLs.

Do not post inflammatory reviews - stop and put yourself in the shoes of the owner of the business you are posting about.

Do not post many reviews about one business. Doing this will cause all of your reviews to be deleted.

Average Breakfasts
By Photoman on 8/28/2008
We went here twice on our week in Salvo. Nothing special on the breakfast menu. Cracked me up that all the young waitresses seem to be from Europe with accents but they were friendly and our meals came fast. The pancakes and french toast do have a unique and good flavor, better than your plain old french toast and pancakes. $4 for a large glass of orange juice was a little high, but they seemed to be the best breakfast restaurant in Avon with the biggest menu, which is not all that big.

Not bad for lunch
By Ries on 8/2/2008
The black bean burgers were really good and so was the Hatteras-style chowder. My son said the crab legs were fair, but pricey for what appeared to be a very light lb. of legs. Service was okay but not stellar and the table was a bit sticky and gross.

I wish I could review the food...
By j&r on 7/21/2008
Breakfast until 11? It's on their website and their menu, but we arrived at 10.15 and were told they had had a lot of people so they stopped serving. This has happened twice to us: once last year and then again this year. Disappointing.

If you are a collector of all things frog, this is the shop for you. The best thing about this resturant was the gift shop.

Go for breakfast, but not any other time.
By Dad at the beach on 6/11/2008
Food was tolerable, breakfast menu is good, but you pay far too much at any other time. Service is lousy and the management is very defensive. Based on the number of complaints here, I guess they feel rather put upon.
This is more of a bar than a great family place.

Not Baby Friendly
By 9 months from NY (Cuba, New York) on 5/14/2008
I am not going to rate this restaurant because we were refused service. We (my mother, myself and my 9 month old daughter) went to the Frog at 4:30pm on a Sunday. We were refused service because only the bar - where smoking was allowed - was available and the remainder of the restaurant would not open until 5pm. I guess children don't eat before 5 at the Frog.

The service was very slow, and there where only three tables with patrons and each one had their own waiter. The staff overall was unfriendly, and the food was nothing special.

Rude staff & seems they cater to locals ... at least in the lounge area. My husband and I were treated like outcasts, bartender basically ignored us and locals were unfriendly. Left no tip because of poor service and was sworn at! I do not, can not, will not recommend this place!!! We will never, ever, ever go back to that place!

Crappy service
By Jeff on 8/6/2007
We had a very simular experience with my party of 10, when we arrived there weren't many people there but it took 20 min to be seated. After being seated our drink order was immediatly taken and brought to us -- then it took 20 min for the waitress to take our food order. When we recieved our order 50 min later they brought several people in our party the wrong order, then argued with us about it but finaly brought the correct food out 40 min later (of course everybody else was finished eating). When we finaly left we left no tip because one was not deserved and we heard the waitress cussing as she was cleaning the table up. This was the biggest waist of 2 ½ hours I ever spent in a restaurant and we will not go back.

Apalling experience
By Kim on 7/31/2007
We too had the same experience as previously stated. Our family of 9 had come at the start of the dinner hour, so we were seated quickly. However, once we were seated we were greeted by Robin, who needs a refresher course on customer service. We were also followed out the door by ROBIN stating that we did not give her an adequate tip (which was a 20 % tip by the way). I could see if we walked out without paying the bill, but come on. If she is so worried about the type of tip she would receive, the restaurant should include gratuity of parties of 8 or more within the check (like most places do). When one of the steaks was returned to the kitchen due to it being much less than well done, instead of apologizing, Robin tried to insinuate that she was given the wrong information. Unfortunately, my children like the ambiance, however we will never be back to Froggy Dog. I tried to talk with the hostess and was told the manager was not available and stated that there was really nothing they could do because Robin Lied about the amount of tip in cash she received.

Watch your back
By Chaz on 7/29/2007
The meal was good, the service was good, But I guess my tip wasn't good enough. After paying almost $300 for the meal and leaving a proper tip, The waitress followed me out the door looking for more of a tip. She embarresed myself and my family. We will be back to the Outer Banks, But we will not be back to the Froggy Dog.

Hit The Spot
By KevNKim on 7/21/2007
I am an australian, married to a US citizen, and am now living in the beautiful state of NC. I am from the tropical coast of Queensland and have spent the past 10 years working in the hospitality industry. We arrived at the Froggy Dog for lunch and I was very satisfied with the overall dining experience. The interior presentation of the restaurant contributes significantly toward initial impressions and I found it 'cool' and very relaxing. The service that followed was cheerful and welcoming. Our wait for food was brief and the quality of food served was excellent. Having worked in the hospitality industry for so long, I am very mindful that staff turnover may be high and it is a difficult task for restaurant owners to maintain a quality crew. The owners of this restaurant did a great job of recruitment. Thanks and we will be visiting again. Onya guys !!!

Totally Unacceptable
By NCVisitor on 7/8/2007
There was a wait when we arrived with our 5 adults and one child. A group of 8 came in 5 minutes after us without a reservation and were seated in front of us. When I asked the hostess she told me they only seat the exact number (8 people at an 8 person table, 6 people at a 6 person table). I asked to speak with a manager but was told he was not there. Two groups of 5 who came in 15 minutes after us without reservations and were seated ahead of us at a 6 person table. We were finally seated in a section that only had small children. That was OK but they did not need to lie about why we were not seated. The service was just OK and very slow. It took over 5 minutes to get menus and 10 minutes to get our drinks (no alcohol). One person ordered scallops and pasta. After about 25 minutes the waiter told us they were out of pasta. You might expect them to run out of fresh seafood but not pasta. We finally got our meal after waiting about 45 minutes. The grilled scallop dinner included 2 (that is right 2) fried scallops the size if half dollars and a baked potato that was the size of small boiled potato. All the potatoes were very small and we had to ask three times for butter. I do not believe 3 shrimp make a shrimp dinner but they do. The soup was good. The salad was good. The child's plate had more food on it than 3 of the adult's plates. Our total was $110 for about $70 worth of food. We did not and never will go back.

Hit or miss on service, but good food and good prices...
By LoveTheCoast on 4/29/2007
We've eaten there for dinner and breakfast. Service seems hit or miss, but it's hard to have a great staff when you have to import them every year. The owner is super nice and the food is pretty good.

Not to be missed!!!!
By Scotty on 4/25/2007
This is a family restaurant which shows that the owners really care about all ages of the group from baby to adult. They have a room exclusively for children with videos, toys and books! Their gift shop has a wide variety of great souveniers and the food has always been consistently excellent. I highly recommend the soft shell crabs and the clam chowder, a Hatteras Island tradition. They also have Kareoke after the dinner hour. For breakfast, the crab meat omlette is to die for! You can still tell that they care about kids, though, because one morning when I was in there, a woman had her two children with her for breakfast, and I saw that the chef sent out pancakes shaped like Mickey Mouse! It was impressive. I will always eat at the Froggy Dog--or as locals call it, ''The Dog!''

Go to the outer banks every year and the 1st couple of years ate here. First time the food wasn't very good along with the wait. We gave it another try the following year and it was terrible again. I refuse to eat there ever again.

Terrible atmosphere and customer service
By a Guest Reviewer
I visited this restaurant with my family on vacation. It was the most awful dining experience ever. I waited an hour to sit down, even though there didn't appear to be much of a line. It was cold and dark inside. Our waitress was on her first day and very nervous, however, she was the best part of the stay.
Our order was ''lost'' leaving us to wait 3 ½ hours for our food. We asked to see the manager, but he refused to talk to us or give a discount. He told us we could take it out of the waitress' tip! It was truly a terrible waste of precious family time and the worst example of customer service I have ever witnessed
