Review Guidelines
Basic Review Guidelines:

Your review should focus on specific aspects of the business you are reviewing. Do not simply state you liked or disliked the business - be specific.

The best reviews include not only whether you liked or disliked a business' products or service, but also why.

DO NOT TYPE IN ALL CAPS!

Do not mention competing company names in your reviews. Focus on the company you are reviewing, and if you wish, leave a review about the other companies on their directory listings.

Do not comment on other reviews - respect their position and write your own, but do not argue with others.

Do not use profanity or post spiteful remarks.

Do not write a review that is less than 50 words in length. The goal of a review is to share your experiences with a particular company - very short reviews do not accomplish this.

Do not post phone numbers, email addresses or URLs.

Do not post inflammatory reviews - stop and put yourself in the shoes of the owner of the business you are posting about.

Do not post many reviews about one business. Doing this will cause all of your reviews to be deleted.

Good Service, OK Food
By Candi on 1/21/2009
We ate here to celebrate 2 birthdays on vacation. We had a great waitress (it was very busy)! The food was pretty good, I would probably go there again and try it one more time. A little pricey though.

Food was not hot, salad was not cold, pasta was mushy, and I would swear the grill marks on my mahi mahi were fake! The mahi was tasteless and lukewarm. The baked potato was twice the size of the fish. We won't go back.

The dolphin den is the coolest joint in town. Great food, handsome and friendly waiters. Can't wait to get back to Avon next year. Mary Guevarra

TERRIBLE service
By Bill on 8/17/2008
Last Friday, on our last night at the beach, my family ate at the Dolphin Den.

While the food was average, the waiter was the worst I've ever had. A tall gangly sort of beach bum looking guy, he was slow and never asked how our food was. We asked for more butter when he brought our meal, he never came back. My sister-in-law went to get him. When he came with the butter, he asked how things were and my brother-in-law said that our potatoes got cold waiting for the butter. At this point, the waiter started talking baby-talk in a sarcastic manner saying ''Aw, is your potato cold? I'm so sorry. I wouldn't want your potato to be cold.'' and walked away.

When I went to complain to the manager, the hostess said there wasn't one. When I ask for who was in charge, she said she would find someone, who turned out to be the cook, who, based on his manner was a friend of the waiter, saying the waiter was under some stress. He didn't take us seriously until we implied we were documenting his answers for the owner.

In my entire life, I have never been so disrespected by a waiter. If you get anything like this kind of treatment, don't pay the bill.

Confused
By chemcoman on 8/6/2008
My experience at Dolphin Den is mixed. My family has had fabulous meals with good sized portions and good to great service. Other times, the place was near empty and we waited forever for service and mediocre food.
My wife and I went out without the children to eat here and we were disappointed. My wife paid $15 for 5 shrimp and broccolli. my steak was good, but overpriced for the size of the cut of it.

Great place, Great Decorations
By JK on 8/2/2008
There are great decorations all over the ceiling. The food is great especially for the before 5 ''earlybird specials''.BTW: there is not a wait before 5. The service is fast and the waiters/staff were very nice!

I would go there again!

Its one of the best in Avon!

Terrific Staff, Not so Teriffic food
By Mellyora on 7/1/2008
We weent there for the first time the first of June. The lunch ''specials'' were not on a menu so it was easy to tell what they were. For lunch my husband had the flounder and got 1 small piece of fish. I had the shrimp, which had some type of breading that was so think over the tiny shrimp, but I did get a decent lunch portion. The waitor, (I canot remember his name but he has dark hair and is a volunteer fireman in Avon) was super nice, giving us tips on where to look for shipwrecks and other points of interest. The decor was superb, I loved sitting in the resturant looking around and the pictures on the ceiling were fun. For a meal I would not return.

I've been here twice and will probably never return. The first dish I ordered from this restaurant contained RAW scallops. What a way to kill an appetite. The second time I went (a year later), our group of 8 waited over an hour to be seated - which we understood because we had a large group and it was dinnertime. However, we were given two booths of 4 back-to-back. So we couldn't all eat together. When we received the checks, the waitress added the mandatory gratuity as if we had had a table of 8. We all complained saying we asked for a table of 8, but they gave us 2 tables of 4 and therefore she could not automatically add the gratuity to our bill. She wouldn't budge. So, we paid our bills and all vowed never to return to the restuarant again.

The food wasn't that great anyway, compared to other places in the area.

Don't waste your money here
By Dad at the beach on 6/11/2008
Food was too pricey and the lack of kids menus is unforgivable at the beach. Service seemed cold and hurried. We had two adults and 3 kids and it was well over $100. In contrast, we got much better service and food (quality and quantity) at another place for under $100.

The Dolphin Den is a good ''staple.'' The food is not excellent, but it is good. The service is good, also. Get the steamed shrimp as an entree- it is a lot of good food for the money, OR get there before 5 and get one of the early bird specials (under $10). They do need a kids menu, but there are a few items that kids like- grilled cheese, motzarella sticks, etc. (They could be ''kid priced'' though.)

first time was our last time...
By obxbums on 5/9/2008
Had a bad experience here a few years ago where the waitress had no idea what she was doing with the credit card machine. I was certain she had charged me twice but the owner argued the point. Later I confirmed this with the credit card company including showing him the statement. He still argued the point with me!
The food was just ok... I have to agree with the comment about the booths... very uncomfortable!

I ate there for lunch in September, and it was pretty good. Not spectacular, but pretty good. I'd go back, but probably wouldn't go there for a special occasion.

Stopped by for lunch and there was only one girl to take care of all of the tables. She did a fantastic job. The food was very good - I had a ruben sandwich and it was one of the best I've ever had.

The coconut shrimp, fresh and soaked in buttermilk
By KONA on 6/30/2007
Our experience was great. We tried the coconut shrimp and blackened tuna, which was fresh from a catch the night before. Our friends tried the linguini & clam sauce and best cooked fried flounder. You have to try the key lime pie to believe

Only eaten there a few times and all were at lunch. The only thing I've ever tried is the tuna steak salad -- it was recommended and I fell in love the fist time.

The crab cake sandwiches at Dolphin Den are maybe the best on the island - seriously - I am a local and have tried many others and this is one of the best!
