''Along with the informative film presentation and displays depicting the story of the famed ''Lost Colony of Roanoke Island,'' my family and I were intrigued as we discovered the story of the other ''lost'' colony. In 1862, escaped enslaved Africans sought the recently liberated from the Confederacy island as a refuge of freedom. They established their own colony that was to be a model used throughout the South of how former Black slaves were to transition in to a viable and self-sufficient peo...''
''Ladies...if you want to get rid of your husband for hours...send him here. LOL My husband loves the pier. He would go out fishing when the kids were napping and had a great time catching fish and talking to everyone. The kids also love to go out and walk on the pier and look at what people have caught. The staff is very friendly and helpful too....''
''The hotel was very clean, staff was nice and hospitable but the room was small and very common. The bar with live outdoor entertainment across the street was not an appropritate scene for my 12 year old. People were loud and drunk and started fighting when we arrived. Also the ''continental'' breakfast was a let-down. Packaged muffins,...''
''I believe it's free to tour this facility. It's geared toward adults with beach conservation etc. but it has a nice walk-through display on local flora and fauna for the kids to enjoy. The gift shop is nicely stocked....''
''This is a great place to take in breathtaking views of flowers and gardeners. You can learn rich history about Roanoke Island and Nags Head whilst admiring the beautiful displays. The only bad thing about this place is the annoying mosquitoes. Be sure to wear plenty of bug repellant before your arrival (and bring a bottle with you)....''
''Coming from a family who loves the water we had a wonderfull time fishing. The captian was kind and the crew just as nice. I would love to do this again the next time I am in town with the kids....''
''This was one of the places that was on my ''Must See'' list. It did not disappoint. The stories of the rescues were very interesting and seeing the house and the kitchen building like it would have been back then was a lot of fun. We did not get to tour the original 1874 station because it was damaged from a lightning strike. I definitely recommend visiting if you're going to the Outer Banks....''
