Ocracoke is a quaint place to visit but it surpassed being just a beach trip when I learned about the people and events that made Ocracoke what it is today. Museum offered ''Back Porch'' talks that were sometimes informational and often fun. The week we were there they offered storytelling two days with storytellers attending Donald Davis' National Storytelling Workshop....''

''We had a lot of fun here! The musuem was very interesting and educational. There were many exhibits on the colonists and the Native Americans they encountered. There were also presentations about the lighthouses, the Freedman's Colony, lifesaving stations and the waterfowl of the area. Many of the exhibits were hands on-in one part there were colonial costumes that you could try on, for kids and adults. There were maps and displays, guns and tents and a general store set. They also had a film ab...''
