The view of the surf is great even from the lower floors. The bed was very comfortable, the kitchen is tiny but certainly usable, the furniture well-kept. The front desk people were very friendly and helpful. On the downside: The ''balcony'' is actually a tiny little strip of concrete barely big enough for 2 chairs, and the outside furniture was filthy. Being close to where the pool was turned out to be a drawback, because they started playing music first thing in the morning and it went on all day and into the night. The choice was to either shut the sliding glass door and miss out on the ocean sound, or put up with the really bad pop music coming out of the speakers around the pool. Too bad. | |

However, the views are great from each condo, all the rooms have the most basic kitchen necessities, and you get the most for the price you pay on Wrightsville by far. We arrived 2 hours before check-in but were allowed to check in immediately and a bellhop assisted us to our room. There was ample parking on each floor of the hotel. The room was very suitable for our needs and the ocean view was great. We had one breakfast and one dinner in the hotel restaurant. The breakfast was a free buffet with your usual breakfast food, though no bacon or sausage. Dinner was surprisingly tasty and the service was good. Other than the meals, we did not have too much interaction with hotel staff, though what little interaction we had was helpful.
Overall, it was a pleasant stay and we will certainly go back. The few negatives are pretty nitpicky, but worth noting: the mattress on the pullout sofa is too thin for an adult to sleep comfortably; the kitchen area could have used a drain board, paper towels and napkins. The outdoor pool area is a little small. People claim their chairs early in the morning by placing their towels down and then disappear to the beach. So do the same. | |

The location is just plain fantastic--at the top end of Wrightsville Beach. There's a big beach that's not crowded and the water is clearer than you'll find further north. Two pools (one outside and one inside) provide the kids somehting to do while the sun's a bit too strong. Our kids keep pestering us to go back--all the TIME! | |

| Pleased with all 3 visits | | By a Guest Reviewer | I've visited Shell Island three times in the past 2 years and have not been disappointed with any stay. The rooms were clean and had all needed ammenties. The view was great.
During my last visit the end of the island had been rebuilt, so the hotel is not in danger of sinking.
