We stayed in an oceanfront room with a spectacular view. The weather has been delightful and we were able to enjoy sushi in the lobby lounge and feel the breeze from the picture windows that they always kept open. The staff was great which really provided for a wonderful stay at the beach.

The facilities are nice and spacious, but the whole place could use some upgrading. The rooms are clean, but they look like they haven't been updated in a while. The pool is good, but the gym facility is ancient and needs to be updated. The beach is wide and uncrowded. There is very little parking too.
If you want to go into downtown Wilmington, it's not too far of a drive and it's a fairly straight shot so you shouldn't get lost. Be sure and check out the Oceanic Restaurant just down the road and skip Wings in favor of Sweetwater Surf Shop. The folks there are incredibly helpful and friendly.
Wrightsville Beach is a great, relaxing getaway and the folks are really laid back and friendly. You could do worse than staying at the Blockade Runner.

BUT...I'm sitting in my room wondering if I'm going to have a headache all night becuase the room smells so MUSTY and MILDEW that I can't stand it. I'm ready to forfeit the money I paid and pack up my things and find another hotel. I will NEVER COME HERE AGAIN! Not worth the money, especially when you consider the medical bills to try and flush your system of the mold spores!!!!

This is a very historical Hotel that has been upgraded recently. Bathroom upgrades in the balcony rooms was very nice with tile walls and tile floor and a window that you can see the beach from.

It was just the thing our two year old. We were lucky to get summer weather in December and so enjoyed not only the ocean view, but the ocean. Wimington had plenty to do, even in December, but that ocean view, sandy walks, gentil breezes and kite flying kept us at the hotel and beach most of the time. The staff were very attentive to our needs. It was a perfect two day vacation.

| 2 of 2 people found this review helpful: | | HUGE WASTE OF MONEY | | By a Guest Reviewer | | was kept waiting for 45 minutes for room to be cleaned, then given wrong room,I had paid for oceanview with balcony but was put in room with no balcony, FINALLY resolved after even more waiting and no apology, phone in room did not work, bath tub enamel was coming off, hair dryer did not work, was told to leave main lobby on Friday night while I was trying to catch up on work so they could have a reception, could that not have been in a private room so the rest of us could use the lobby? I will never pay almost $500 for 2 nights of such substandard housing again and will tell all my business partners and friends of the horrible experience I had. I gave management a chance to make ammends and was told they would do nothing. PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ; HOLIDAY INN SUNSPREE IS A MUCH BETTER DEAL JUST DOWN THE BEACH! | |

| 1 of 1 people found this review helpful: | | Nice | | By a Guest Reviewer | | This motel has a great setting, nice rooms, palm trees, nice beaches. What more could you ask for? | |

| 1 of 1 people found this review helpful: | | Low Quality Room | | By a Guest Reviewer | | I paid far too much for a room which was no better than some low budget hotels I've stayed in. The lobby and pool areas were very nice. Gardens were beautiful. But I'd rather have had a room with a bathroom I could towel off in and not hit every wall, a tub with unstained grout that drained well, clean floors and a kitchenette. Definitely not resort quality. | |
