I have eaten all over the east coast, from Boston to Tallahassee and have never come across a restaurant that offered such a sumptuous variety of gourmet tastes, from beef and pork to chicken and seafood. I started my first meal there with a splendid lobster bisque, followed by impereial stuffed shrimp with a perfectly prepared and presented side of aspargus. (This was in the springtime). If I could buy a freezer full of the stuffed shrimp, I would. It was a seafood lover's dream. I also sampled the most splendid crab cakes in the universe. They tasted delicate and delicious, very meaty, light and fluffy, with just the right amount of spice and breading - more meat than bread, more seafood flavor than spice, and light and fluffy as a cloud. I should say the same of the stuffed shrimp. (They did not have the typical overabundance of spice and peppers that always makes me suspicious of local cuisine). I also sampled the baked brie appetizer with fruit; the fruit was perfectly in season and the brie was chastely toasted, creamy and lovely. The presentation of everything was as gorgeous as it was tasty. And the dessert cakes and bannanas Foster are to die for. Additionally, the attention of the servers, hosts, and management was beyond ''above and beyond,'' without being irritating, nor overly gratuitous. The staff was attentive and respectful, not stuffy. My experiences there were all just perfect. You can not miss Port City Chop House when you visit coastal North Carolina. It is an unpretensious, local treat with rare, subtle, cosmopolitan appeal. Hope to see you there. | |
