The Carousel Center Annual Flounder Tournament

Inlet Watch Yacht Club: Inlet Watch Yacht Club of Carolina Beach and Tex's Tackle of Wilmington present The Carousel Center Annual Flounder Tournament. Prizes will be awarded for heaviest flounder. Cash awards will be given, with 1st place receiving $1,000, 2nd place receiving $500, 3rd place receiving $250, 4th place receiving $100 and 5th place receiving $50.
Registration for the tournament is open until 7:00 p.m. on June 20, 2008. The cost to enter the tournament is $30 per angler.
All proceeds from the tournament will benefit The Carousel Center of Wilmington, which is a non-profit organization that is committed to providing a child-friendly environment to meet the needs of the abused and neglected children in southeastern North Carolina.

Kure Beach Double Sprint Triathlon 2008

Kure Beach: The very first ''Formula 1'' or super sprint style triathlon in the U.S. The Kure Beach Double Sprint is now in it's 12th year. Competitors start out with a 375 meter ocean swim. Upon exiting the water, participants put on their running gear at the ''Beach Transition Area'' and run 1.5 miles to the ''Town Hall Transition Area''. Participants then complete a 10K bike ride on a closed course. With no rest - participants immediately ride the 10 K bike course again finishing at the ''Town Hall Transition Area''. Then it's back on with the running gear for the 1.5 mile run back to the ''Beach Transition Area''. Participants complete the race by once again swimming the 375 meter course. This event benefits Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Pleasure Island Sea Turlte Project.
