Northern Outer Banks Galleries

The wildlife that flocks to this area of the Outer Banks serves as inspiration to the artists who live here, along with the beautiful beaches and maritime forests. With a long history of secluded windswept beaches, elite hunt clubs, and thousands of migrating waterfowl, the spirit of the Northern Outer Banks can be found in the works of a number of artists, in a number of locally owned galleries.

Beach Bums

4402 Caratoke Hwy - Coinjock
Beach Bums features a wide variety of art, decor for beach cottages, unusual gifts, and is well known for its support of local, homegrown artists. Located just off island in Coinjock, approximately 20 miles south of the Wright Memorial Bridge, Beach Bums is a perfect spot to explore on your way to or from the Outer Banks.

Tar Heel Trading Company features two unique locations in the Northern Outer Banks, located in Duck and Corolla. Specializing in American handcrafts, Tar Heel Trading Company has been a fixture on the Outer Banks since 1979. Both shops feature a wide variety of office, home and garden pieces that are both aesthetically pleasing to the eye, and functional. Special pieces include waterfowl carvings, kaleidoscopes, and handcrafted jewelry.

Greenleaf Gallery

1169 Duck Road
One of the area's larger galleries is the Greenleaf Gallery. Located in a 3,000 square foot building at the southern boundary of Duck, this gallery offers a wide selection for regional and local painters and craftsmen. The gallery first opened its doors in 1974, and since that time, has features a collection of interesting pieces, including unique glass pieces, bronze sculptures, ceramics, original paintings, and jewelry. The gallery is seasonally open from March to December.

Sea Dragon Gallery

1240 Duck Road - The Waterfront Shops
Located in the heart of Duck, Sea Dragon Gallery was established in 2001 and features a selective collection of both traditional and contemporary pieces. Discover unique pottery, glass, metal, and wood by both Outer Banks and national artists. The Waterfront Shops where the gallery resides is also a treat in and of itself, with a long wooden boardwalk that borders the sound and is perfect for a summer stroll.

Wooden Feather Gallery

1171 Duck Rd. Suite D4
For specialty pieces that pay homage to the area's loving history of wildlife and waterfowl, stop by the Wooden Feather Gallery. Here, the coastal charm of the Northern Outer Banks is etched into wood, from original paintings on wood backdrops to birdhouses, to carved eggs, colorful seashells and homemade gifts. You'll also find featured pieces by Sarah Gill, as well as a number of local and regional artists.
