Review Guidelines
Basic Review Guidelines:

Your review should focus on specific aspects of the business you are reviewing. Do not simply state you liked or disliked the business - be specific.

The best reviews include not only whether you liked or disliked a business' products or service, but also why.

DO NOT TYPE IN ALL CAPS!

Do not mention competing company names in your reviews. Focus on the company you are reviewing, and if you wish, leave a review about the other companies on their directory listings.

Do not comment on other reviews - respect their position and write your own, but do not argue with others.

Do not use profanity or post spiteful remarks.

Do not write a review that is less than 50 words in length. The goal of a review is to share your experiences with a particular company - very short reviews do not accomplish this.

Do not post phone numbers, email addresses or URLs.

Do not post inflammatory reviews - stop and put yourself in the shoes of the owner of the business you are posting about.

Do not post many reviews about one business. Doing this will cause all of your reviews to be deleted.

Remember, you are responsible for your words.

The Worst Place on the Crystal Coast
By Bobby on 11/17/2008
Probably the easiest way to review this place at this point is to say I agree with Chris, Donna, Margaret, Jonathan, Amanda and James. I don't feel I have much to add except the gravel parking lot at night is treturous. There is no lighting in the lot, it is not paved and there are potholes everywhere. If you chose this place be VERY careful walking in, my little boy fell and skinned his wrist.

Shells in crabcakes and clams, waste of money
By Chris on 10/7/2008
Wow! I have never in my life ever written a review about any resturant and my wife and I dine out often. I thought I would surprise my wife and take her to get her favorite type of food, seafood. She's from Maryland origionally and loves crab cakes. They brought the food out and it had lots of shells in my wife's crab cakes and my clams. They brought us sodas and it had no syrup in them, then it took the waitress 15 minutes to bring new ones out. The salad was good, that was it!The inside of the resturant looks ran down, old booths, etc. For a place that's very expensive, it should be better maintained. It's too expensive for quality of food where frozen seafood would taste much better and be cheaper to make yourself. Wish I had read the reviews prior to taking my wife there and ruining her birthday meal.

Not Worth It
By Donna on 9/19/2008
I live in Jacksonville but work in Swansboro. My co-workers raved about this restaurant so I decided to give it a try. I WILL NOT be back. The food was so-so, the price was too high, and the menu was ''old''. The service, however, was good. All in all it was a huge disappointment.

2 for 1 dinner and a sauna
By Margaret on 7/28/2008
WOW! You could put my steak on a table and wait for it to broil. Who would want to dine in an old house in 90 degree heat. The dining room was sweltering. When we ordered drinks the server told us it might be a while because they were out of glasses??? WHAT! Drinks took 20 mins to make it to the table. We ordered an app and left. NEVER GOING BACK.

Well worth the money

I would truly go back again and again. I found the food to be wonderful. Well worth the money. I thinking about my grouper with crabmeat and white sauce, really great.

Very Disappointed.
By Jonathan on 5/28/2008
With gas on the rise I decided to stay close this Memorial Day weekend. So I took the family to the Crystal Coast and we decided to try out the Riverside (which is across the street from the river and has ZERO view of it) when we drove up I thought the outside looked like an old home but thought it might be quaint and warm inside. Well my wife almost broke her neck navigating the rough gravel parking lot in high heels at night. This should have been are cue to leave but we had two kids hungry and already had reservations. The inside is old and not welcoming, the floors need to be refinished and our table wobbled. We tried the crab dip app which was good. Problem is the dip was the only thing at all that came out cooked correctly. I wasn't impressed with the muffin which came with my salad, it tasted more like a desert not something you eat before a meal. The steaks were extremely small and I would be shocked if it was the advertised 10oz. My wife got a crab claw pasta special which was a disgusting mess. Kids had some fried stuff which was probably the best thing that hit the table. I wouldn't recommend this place. I wish I had found this site first.

By Guest on 4/4/2008
Much like the last two reviews I found this place VERY disappointing. I do have a couple more things to add: I had a ''special'' which according to my waitress never change and the owner is too cheap to add them to the menu, anyway the filet's are so small you can finish it in a couple bites. I did not have the same luck with service my waitress was a bit of a mess and talked way too much about herself. I believe her name was Tanya. I won't bore readers by repeating what was already written so I will just say read Amanda and James' reviews.

Not as advertised
By Amanada on 3/11/2008
First timt in my life I loved or hated a place enouh to go online and write a review and I hated it. Don't know what the others found at this house with rotting floors but I found a horible crab claw pasta special and my husband got a $30 petite filet with white sauce and canned crab meat. I won't go back. If you chose this place expect around $100 tab for two at a place no better than Chili's. I undersand the area doesn't have much selection but this is no better and carries a big price. The decor is AWFUL. Tables are old and beat up with chips and missing boards. Cusions are ripped and look like they came from the 80s. We did grab a drink upstairs in the lounge, it was cute and the drinks were resonably priced.

Who is rating this place?
By James on 2/19/2008
I will admit the service was the highlight. I was seated along with my wife near the kitchen. I saw a very unkept dirty looking man dressed like a gothic bum bring muffins out to a warmer. I couldn't keep up with the million specials and the food was overpriced. The manager came over and asked how everything was when I politely told him of our complaints he got defensive and questioned my dining experience, then left my table. I think he was high. Weird place, not my style. Maybe yours?

Absolutely PERFECT
By Matt on 2/8/2008
I vacationed on the Crystal Coast for 2 weeks in the summer of 2007, my fourth year vacationing in the area. I just found this place and I'm so glad I did, eveyrhting was PERFECT. We were seated immediately and had excellent service (I'm so sorry I don't remember the waitress's name!). She listed every special (about 20!) from memory and was helpful when we asked for a recommendation. Try their house salad with their special bacon dressing, it's divine. Definitely order a few baskets of the sweet potato muffins to take home! Try the Maryland crabcake dinner or the Salmon Oscar, both are delicious. In my two weeks vacationing in NC, I ate here 6 times.

Ask for Clare!
By Robert on 12/9/2007
My family and I have taken vacations to the Crystal Coast for years and our only complaint has been the lack of really good food in the area. While taking a walk on the beach we entered into a conversation with a couple walking their dog and said the Riverside is the place to go for dinner and Clare as the best server. So we took our family and asked for Clare. She was an amazingly attentive young woman who kept us laughing. She listed off 20 specials from memory and made recommendations which we took. The Oyster Rockefeller should be a menu item not a special, it was amazing! We will be back every time we visit the coast. Only complaint was the temperature in the dining room - it was probably 75 to 80 degrees. But if that is the price to pay to eat that well, I don't mind.

EXCELLENT RESTAURANT
By an NCBeaches Guest on 8/12/2007
I have lived in the area for 28 years and this is a wonderful place to dine. The food is always excellent. John and his staff are great. You have to try the clam chowder, very rich and creamy. The sweet potato muffins are to die for. Mahi mahi or grouper fingers are delicous. The mixed drinks they serve are the best I've tasted in the area. The meals are a LITTLE pricey but well worth it.

Lived in Swansboro all my life and it's about time Swansboro got a five star all around restaurant!!! John and all his staff are wonderful and make us feel like family. The food and service is superb and I highly recommend it for the tourist. The sweet potato muffins are the greatest! It gets very busy in the summer so make a reservation. Greg & Lora

The salmon was great. A group of us came to visit Jacksonville and decided to eat seafood. All the dishes were elegantly presented. The pumpkin muffin was outstanding!!
