The North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores takes visitors on a tour of North Carolina's amazing aquatic life - ''from the mountains to the sea.'' The journey is arranged in five galleries: Mountain, Piedmont, Coastal Plain, Tidal Waters and Ocean. Among the 40 innovative exhibits are re-created shipwrecks that showcase the diverse marine life attracted to these sunken vessels. The 306,000-gallon Living Shipwreck display in the Ocean Gallery features a 3/4-size replica of a German U-boat that was sunk off Cape Lookout in World War II. The Queen Anne's Revenge duplicates the 18th century artifacts in Beaufort Inlet thought to be the wreckage of the pirate Blackbeard's flagship.
Also popular: playful river otters, a roaring mountain waterfall, sand tiger sharks and sea turtle hatchlings. Touch pools allow personal contact with stingrays, whelks and other creatures. The Aquarium offers an array of activities and field trips, and has facilities for weddings, celebrations and meetings. Visitors also will find a large gift shop and a snack bar.

Especially the kids will love it! There are a variety of different animals to be ''up close'' to, and you can even pet a few! Don't miss the sharks!

I remember before the renovation, and I'd have to say, they did a fantastic job on the renovation. Good job, Aquarium!

I spent about four hours milling around the aquarium with a friend, and we both were delighted with the new exhibits. The sharks and otters were highlights for us--what a great asset for our area!

The staff were nice, the place was clean and they had a variety of aquariums there with all types of fish, sharks, octopus, squid and my favorite, river otters. They also have a shop inside the aquarium building and a place to get food and drinks outside the building. We will definitely go back!! I only rated it as ''good'' though because I've been to the Baltimore Aquarium and nothing can compare to it!!
