California Roll was started in Australia to combine American influenced sushi with an Australian flare. When the owners of the Australian California Roll decided to leave the Land Down Under, they found Morehead City to be a perfect place to open a new California Roll. The intention of California Roll is to ''feed the locals fresh food in a relaxing and friendly environment.'' The Spring/Summer hours are Monday-Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. They also have a ''private sushi chef'' party with a chef who will cater your next party by rolling sushi in your home!! When my husband and I discovered California Roll the first week it opened we were overjoyed. The fish is fresh, the rolls are made tightly and perfectly sized. The menu has expanded gradually and we are always excited to see what is new to try. For people who don't like raw fish, the menu has several cooked items and even a few chicken selections. They also offer very reasonable take out platters for parties and are very flexible about making specialty rolls. I am a big fan of California Roll, it feels like a little slice of home every time we go there. | |

However California Roll brings home all the things I miss about ''mom's cooking.'' California Roll is certainly the next best thing to mom and my daughter and I love it!! I saw the banner along side the road and had to turn around to stop. I was not disappointed, either. Great, fresh tasting food every time I visit. | |

The staff is friendly and the sushi is fabulous. I'd love for them to serve wine, but what they lack in alcohol they more than make up for in taste and style.
