| Value: | | Service: | | Food: | | | Ambiance: | | | | Was happy til | | By Guest on 9/1/2008 | | We had gone to ''A taste of Italy'' twice and really enjoyed it so decided to take another coupel from New Bern. We had a wonderful evening and enjoyed the buffet and then the owner Gloria came over and asked us to leave if we weren't going to have wine so they could seat other people waiting. The funny thing was we were waiting for our check. I would like to go back but my husband was not happy and I understood why. It was a surprise from Gloria who had been nice. | |

After reading the reviews on this website, we chose ''Taste'' for its overall good reviews and that we were leaning towards Italian food for dinner. We arrived early and were quickly taken to a table. It was a bit dark inside and after asking for the table candle to be lit, had nice ambience. The menu was extensive and it was difficult to choose from the traditional red sauce dishes or the lighter seafood fare. Our table had stuffed shells (which my daughter loved), chicken parmesean (also good), chicken marsala (delicious) and the birthday boy had a tender steak with a wine sauce (yummy). Each dish came with a small salad, homemade bread and a small bowl of pasta with red sauce. Although the salad dressings were topnotch, the salad itself was uninspiring (iceberg with tiny flecks of carrot). The pasta was good but I would suggest pairing pasta with garlic olive oil with dishes such as my marsala as the red sauce clashed with the flavor of the marsala sauce. My husband also thought that he would rather have garlic olive oil pasta with his steak. We bought a bottle of Italian wine that was recommended by the waitress. It was typical of Italian wines and did not excite us. As with most bottles of wine, it was pricey ($22). We had tiramisu for dessert and it was quite wonderful. It was served in a small stemmed dessert glass and although a bit on the small size, made up with its intense flavor. All in all we had a lovely dinner and would return to try their other dishes.

| Value: | | Service: | | Food: | | | Ambiance: | | Wine List: | | | | Best Italian on the coast!!! | | By EIGuy34 on 5/29/2008 | | My family and I recently went to A Taste of Italy for dinner. Upon arriving we were welcomed in by a very nice lady named Gloria (the owner). She made us feel right at home from the minute we walked in. The food was great. Very classic Italian dishes that tasted like ''momma'' would cook. The Marsala wine sauce was to die for! And you must try the Tiramasu for dessert! Anyone wanting some great classic italian for dinner should give this little jewel a try...you will not be dissapointed! | |

| Value: | | Service: | | Food: | | | Ambiance: | | | | Pricey but Good | | By Abby on 2/8/2008 | | We live in the area...and visit on occasion when we feel in the mood for Italian. It is very good. Beware that it is a bit of a small town cozy atomosphere restaurant and charge more than the food is really worth, but the service is good and the food tastes fresh. | |

Roasted peppers and fresh mozzarella are to die for, steaks and chicken marsala are also on top of out list. Excellent service, food, ambiance. Waitress even suggested a cheaper bottle of wine that was comparable to a much more expensive bottle on thier list. We higly brag on our special place, yes it costs more than Olive Garden, but well worth it. We love Gloria.

I am a good cook learning my skills from my Italian mama,so my husband and I do not go out to eat very often, since I can make wonderful food at home. We decided to go out to dinner for our anniversary to ''A Taste of Italy'' and it was a wonderful experience from the warm greeting of Gloria Pizzutti when we arrived to the soothing sounds of Adrea Bocelli on the sound system then on to the main event the food. We began with a house salad which was crisp and plentiful with of course oil and vinegar. Then I had Chicken Marsala. This arrived in beautiful plate presentation. The flavors were excellent. The chef used a good Marsala wine,Most resturants use cooking wine which is not the same. My husband had calamari for an appetizer and mussels cooked to perfection. It is difficult to get good calamari in this area most restaurants cook it to a rubbery texture. He then had the Zupa de Pesce, it also was cooked to perfection. If you want to dine on excellent, authentic Italian food A Taste of Italy is the ticket to a wondeful culinary experience! Buon Appetito!

| 1 of 2 people found this review helpful: | | Neat find | | By a Guest Reviewer | | This place is an interesting place. The fact they had a buffet (as the banner on the outside told) would lead one to be aware that this was not Olive Garden. However, the buffet looked good even if it was near closing time and fairly empty. We did not have the buffet but instead ordered off the menu. First, the ambience was very good and we even had a room to ourselves. We ordered a Shrimp and Artichoke pasta dish (name escapes my wife) and a egg battered and fried chicken dish with pasta and marinara. I was scared when the salad that came as part of the entree was literally a few leaves of lettuce (as you would find in a mix) and a stray tomato. Also, I was disappointed that they would mention boldly on their menu that there was a $12.95 minimum order for anyone dining there. With these negatives aside I must say that I wasn't let down with our main courses. My wife enjoyed her dish and I could not believe how good the chicken was. Some interesting facts about this restaurant, according to our waitress (who was really nice and helpful) they serve Northern Italian Cuisine and their chef was from Rome. Secondly, they had only been in this building for 2 years, after moving from the waterfront. We met the owner and she was a wonderful lady. She spent several minutes chatting to us and playing with our child. We enjoy finding neat places to eat and enjoy ourselves. This place was nice and we would likely go back next time we are in. Note that this place rates in price around $$-$$$. The buffet is double what I would pay at most buffets but if the food on the bar tastes as good as what was on my plate then it would be worth it. | |
