| Value: | | Service: | | Food: | | | Ambiance: | | Wine List: | | | | Absolutely Fantastic | | By Guest on 4/30/2008 | | The long-awaited 2008 reopening of Portofino's has arrived! They are now open year-round with wonderful food, excellent service, and a wine list worthy of a restaurant of this caliber. The prices are VERY reasonable, understating the quality of their fabulous food. They have everything from salads, panini sandwiches, Italian classics, kids items, signature dishes, tiramisu, and my favorite - their canoli. I'm a critical food guy, and we will definitely be back......a lot. Thanks for a really great dining experience. | |

We were placed in extremely close proximity to other diners (close enough to hear their conversations.) We were told about a grouper special with bur blanc sauce over asparagus that sounded amazing, so my wife and I ordered it. The two plates (bowl type things) arrived large enough to feed two per plate. The fish was overcooked and the sauce was separating. It was served on 2 spears of asparagus and nothing had taste. My wife ordered a glass of Pinot Gris which was sour and I ordered a Knob Creek on the rocks. My bourbon arrived and tasted like Jack Daniels. I asked my server to check with the bar keep to make sure it was a Knob. The server returned with the same glass and I was told it was Knob Creek. Funny since I have been drinking Knob on the rocks for about ten years and I've never had one taste like that, tasted more like cheap bourbon to me. So we get the check and our mush in a bowl special was at a cost of $32 a plate. Grouper for $32? Don't go here if you enjoy the finer things in life.

It was crowded and the wait was going to be 45 minutes or we could seat ourselves at the bar and order there. Since we were hungry and we wanted Italian food, we did that. The food was good but not excellent. The atmosphere was busy but we got the impression that others, like us, were just trying the place. It was good enough so that I will try it again this year and see if I can up this rating with something special to say.
