Arts & Crafts Coalition Holiday Show & Sale

Old News Times Building (Arendell Street): This three-week show and sale of original juried artwork by members of the Carteret County Arts and Crafts Coalition opens each year in alternating locations. Local artists combine their work to create the show for Christmas shopping opportunities and, because of the outstanding works, it is truly an event not to be missed.

Train Show

Broad and Pollock Streets: Trains, trains and more trains. This exhibit of trains is set up in Beaufort's old Train Depot and is for the young and young at heart. Organized by Beaufort residents John and Virginia Costlow, the exhibit offers a glimpse into the past with antique working model trains.

Core Sound Waterfowl Weekend

Core Sound Waterfowl Museum: The Core Sound Waterfowl Museum opens its doors the first weekend in December and offers a slate full of traditional, down-home fun.

Educational exhibits, competitions, retriever demonstrations, arts and crafts and food can be found at the museum's Shell Point headquarters, near the very end of Island Road on Harkers Island.

A Hunting and Fishing Expo is held in conjunction with the festivities at the museum. There are many other special events â€" such as a special dessert supper â€" associated with this weekend, so call the museum for the latest information.

''Lunch with a Dash of History''

1008 Arendell Street: The popular ''Lunch with a Dash of History'' series with storyteller Rodney Kemp is held at noon on Fridays at The History Place in downtown Morehead City.

The topics for the fall series are: Friday, Sept. 11th - ''Talkin'' Carteret; Friday, Sept.25th - The Hidden Beaufort; Friday, Oct. 30th - Shipwrecks and Sea Stories; and Friday, Nov.13th - The Promise' Land Untold; and Friday, Dec. 4 Tis the Season-Christmas in Carteret County.

Tickets are $10 for lunch and only $4 without lunch. Reservations must be made and tickets paid for before Wednesday prior to each lecture by calling 252-247-7533 ext. 106, or stop by the Museum Store. The History Place is located at 1008 Arendell Street, in downtown Morehead City.

22nd Annual Core Sound Decoy Festival

Harkers Island School: The annual show and sale of waterfowl carvings of the Core Sound Decoy Carvers Guild, Harkers Island. The festival features a decoy and wildlife art auction, antique decoy exhibits, decoy carving and painting competitions, retriever demonstrations, children's decoy painting, great food and the World Champion Loon Calling contest.

All events are located at the Harkers Island School.

Beaufort's Coastal Carolina Christmas Walk
Saturday, December 12, 2009 - Saturday, December 12, 2009 (2pm - 4pm)
Beaufort Historic Site: Begins at the Beaufort Historic Site, Beaufort. The walk features open house tours of Historic features Beaufort Bed and Breakfast Inns and the Beaufort Historic Site buildings decorated in period fashion for Christmas.

A special narrated holiday bus tour through the Historic District is available aboard the vintage British double-decker bus. Seasonal music of the Colonial period can be heard throughout the Historic Site.

The Christmas Walk is free. There is a fee for the bus tour.

Historic Downtown Beaufort: Another way to get ready for the holidays this year is to visit beautiful Beaufort homes all ''dressed up'' for the holidays. Tickets are $12 at the Beaufort Historical Association.
