Aqua Restaurant of Beaufort always has ''small plates, BIG PLATES, Great Wines.'' They pride themselves on providing seasonal foods prepared with a little extra flare while supporting the local fisherman and farmers. Their ''small plates'' provide diners with just the right portions of their dining delicacies to either share with those in their party or to mix and match with other selections to create a splendid meal for one. The ''big plates'' feature the freshest North Carolina seafood and Choice Beef Fillet, as well as local produce when it's seasonally available. Whether you enjoy Aqua's array of Champagnes & Sparkling Wines with your ''big plate'' or in-between your ''small plates,'' they are the perfect compliment to the food.

We had an 8:30 reservation but arrived at 8:10. We were seated promptly but then waited for over 20 mins before anyone came to our table to take our drink orders. We both ordered wine from the wine list which then took another 15 - 20 mins to arrive at our table. I overheard a waiter say that they were short staffed. We then proceeded to wait even longer to order our first course(s). We tried the macaroni/lobster bake, the baked eggplant/mozzarella stack, and the seared tuna bento box. These items were good but certainly not fantastic by no means. The macaroni bake had some sort of gravy thrown on top of it sort of like a last minute addition. Not very pretty to look at. The eggplant and mozzarella was good as were the bento box. By this time it was well past 10:30 and we had not even ordered a main course. We skipped the main course and opted for a dessert sampler and a chocolate souffle. Big mistake. The chocolate souffle was awful. No other way to describe it. The sampler was nothing to write home about either. The best part of it was the creme brulee. The mint panna cotta was horrible. Not recommended. By this time our dining experience had lasted nearly 3 hours as it was 11pm when we received the check and paid our waitress. This was certainly not a great dining experience from our point of view. Will not go back.

This year we decided to try new places and came across Aqua. So glad we did. The food was fabulous. The service was great and everyone was so friendly. I highly recommend that you try this place when in Beaufort.
