| Chinese Delight | | By a Guest Reviewer | This restaurant offers a full menu but its buffet, which pleases even the pickiest eaters, is the big draw. With an assortment of Chinese appetizer and side dishes, like wonton soup, egg rolls, crabmeat and cream cheese dumplings, pork spare ribs, Lo Mein, both fried and white rice, the buffet is well stocked.
The distinctive main course selections from General Tso's chicken (my favorite) to broccoli with chicken, sweet and sour chicken, green pepper [beef] steak, and spicy Szechuan dishes are hot and fresh. Surprisingly, the buffet also offers seafood to appease the coastal crowd, as well as, French fries.
Upon entering, the customer is promptly and pleasantly greeted and given the choice of a smoking or non-smoking section of the room. The staff is professional and works as a team with the drink order taken when seated. The primary waiter returns with the drinks and finishes the order, but the table is cleared and drinks are refreshed frequently by any waiter in the vicinity. I do not want to imply they trip over themselves to serve you, but having to ask for something is rare.
Hot tea, served in a stainless steel tea pot with a handle-less tea cup and saucer is a soothing accompaniment to the dessert bar, which includes cakes, cookies, and fruits. Chop sticks are available, which my kids do better with than I do and fortune cookies are always presented with the bill.
Typical Oriental restaurant décor, it is nicely adorned with lanterns and artwork on the walls and tables. The only thing I would change is the pop music softly playing in the background. In my opinion, Asian music should play to complete the illusion of experiencing a bit of authentic Chinese culture.
What makes this Chinese place better than the next?
Its comfortable, cozy atmosphere puts this restaurant above others. The wait staff provides friendly, welcoming service, even when they know that a three year old and rice spells a big mess. Finally, two considerations important to all parents - the facilities are clean and there is ample parking. | |

| Great food and good service | | By a Guest Reviewer | | I've eaten at Zengs quite a few times and have always been pleased. They have vegetarian dishes and are willing to create dishes without meat upon request. For anyone in Shallotte craving Asian cooking, this is the best place to go. | |
