''I found the handwritten menu to be the real star of this restaurant. It features fresh seafood, prepared in a variety of ''uptown'' ways. I had a wonderful fresh piece of Tuna, seared with fresh cracked peppercorns and skillfully dressed with a red wine reduction sauce. Superlative. My husband had the Jumbo Shrimp with Spinach Pasta, tossed in a freshly made Pesto sauce. The flavor was simply amazing. We got the ''smaller'' portions, offered at $14.95, but the portions were still plentiful...''
''Slightly upscale dinning with many offerings including seafood, Italian and LARGE special pizzas. After you earned your tan and good food is first on the list, this is a great place to sit and finish off the day. No reservations and usually busy during the season... Nice bar for about 15 people. Large tables’ available. Food is very good and the menu specials change often… BANG, BANG Shrimp is awesome....''
''Although I haven't been to Capt. John's in about 10 years, but I do remember the food as being excellant. The service there at the time was very good. Although, I do believe they were a little pricy, but when it comes to fresh seafood, you really can't get that anywhere fresh unless it's along the Atlantic, Pacific, or Gulf Coasts....''
''If your intrested in finding a nice small resturant in Calabash this is definately the place to go. Essie and Linda are great people and the food is excellant!!! ''My husband and I grew up in SE NC. Last year we were in Myrtle Beach and looked for Beck's where we had eaten more than 15 years before. We were so pleased that it was still there. We looked at each other and grinned when we opened the menu. Time warp. Same great, fresh, crispy seafood, same great prices! I got the lunch special - fish and shrimp, which was about $6.00. It was as much as I could eat and it was the BEST FRIED SEAFOOD I HAD EATEN ANYWHERE SINCE. We ate at Beck's twice that w...''
''I ventured in off the street while in the area briefly looking a real estate and was delighted to have selected this wonderful restaurant. The crab cake fresh spring garden salad was wonderful. The creme brelee served with an exotic orchid was delicious and the tea was freshly brewed....''
''This place stays busy, even in the off-season! Sean (bartender) is excellent, and the food (once you get a table) is even moreso! The bar is always busy with lots of locals chatting, and leads itself to mingling between locals and tourists.
The husband/wife team that run this place have certainly taken things ''up a notch''. If you don't see it on the menu, try asking -- I rarely eat anything off the menu, and have never once been dissapointed in the 20+ visits over the years....''
''Since the new ownership change, everything has gone down hill...they've taken out the saltwater fish tank, and sealed shut the windows at the bar! The ambience is gone. Sadly, cheers to what was one of the best local hang outs....''
