Ocean Isle Fishing Center Year Round Fishing Rodeo

Ocean Isle Fishing Center: This year, the Ocean Isle Fishing Center is hosting the First Annual Year Round Fishing Rodeo Tournament. Registration is open to any angler wishing to compete and will remain open until December 5, 2008. Eligible species are Flounder, Speckled Trout, Spanish Mackerel, King Mackerel, Cobia, Dolphin, Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, Gag Grouper and Sea Bass. Anglers must purchase a Rodeo ticket for the species they plan to catch BEFORE they catch the fish that will be weighed in. For more information, visit the Ocean Isle Fishing Center website.
Wacky Wednesday Dance Parties

Silver Coast Winery: Back by popular demand, the Wacky Wednesday Dance Parties will take place on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month, starting with Wednesday, April 9 and running through Wednesday, November 19. Come in and listen to some great music, dance to your heart's content and have some great wine. This year, Silver Coast Winery will have a great variety of music and bands for your dancing pleasure. Course: Race begins and ends at Jones-Byrd Patio. 5 mile loop course, mostly paved roads in Sea Trail Plantation, Sunset Beach.

Attendees are encouraged to enter the Lucy look-alike contest " winner will be crowned by the reigning “Lucy.”
All festivals at Silver Coast Winery run from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs and plan to spend the day. Admission cost for each festival at Silver Coast Winery is $5.00 for adults, which covers the entertainment, contests and 5 free raffles throughout the day. There is no charge for admission of children under 12 years old. Our official Master of Ceremonies, Dave “The Bopper” Overby, will start off the day at 11:00 a.m. and get everyone warmed up to have some wonderful fun. The Headline entertainment will begin at noon and continue until 3:00 p.m. From 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., the incredible “house band” Shamalama, starring Mickey Hardie and Phil Berg, will play, so you can end the day dancing your hearts out! Ocean Isle Beach: The premier oyster roast in the state attracted over 45,000 in 2007. This festival includes live entertainment, arts and crafts, N.C. Oyster Shuckin' Championship, Oyster Stew Cook-Off, Kid's Area and Road Race.
The 2007 Oyster Festival, hosted by the Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce, was awarded the ''Event of the Year'' from the North Carolina Association of Festivals and Events in February 2008. The event also received ''Best Brochure'' and ''Best Event Photo.'' Festival & Events Director, Kristin Coffey, also received ''Director of the Year'' for the Oyster Festival.

The Fall Brawl King Classic brings fishermen and their families together for great food, fun and fishing. Entertainment is provided during the Capt. Meeting in the form of the Spot Derby and Cast Net throwing contest while great, food is served compliments of Fall Brawl sponsors and staff. The Fall Brawl is not only special for its attention to family involvment, it just so happens to be held when King Mackerel fishing is at its peak. Every year the tournament is won within sight of land, and on several occasions by boats less than 23 feet. It truly is a great time to fish area and why not join in the competition and give yourself a shot at winning a piece of the over $35,000 in prize money awarded.

Southport, Oak Island and Bald Head Island locations: In partnership with Church World Service and organized locally by the Southport-Oak Island Interchurch Fellowship, the SOIICF CROP Hunger Walk draws over 200 walkers and since 1984 has raised over $183,000 to help stop hunger and poverty here in our community and around the world, through self-help initiatives. 25% of funds raised each year are used by SOIICF for local emergency human needs in our community. CROP Hunger Walks continue to play a big role in the US Gulf Coast rebuilding and in Central America. Support our community walk! Sign-up at your church or contact Ann Parvin.
