John's for about 15 years now and we always go at least twice while we're visiting Holden Beach. I usually get a broiled seafood platter and clam chowder, which are always great, along with the hush puppies. This was the first visit that I've had something I didn't enjoy (shrimp sauteed in garlic butter -- didn't have much flavor, just a huge pile of watery, boiled shrimp). The waitresses are always pleasant and attentive. After dinner we enjoy walking down on the dock and checking out the boats and egrets.

| Good food | | By a Guest Reviewer | | Although I haven't been to Capt. John's in about 10 years, but I do remember the food as being excellant. The service there at the time was very good. Although, I do believe they were a little pricy, but when it comes to fresh seafood, you really can't get that anywhere fresh unless it's along the Atlantic, Pacific, or Gulf Coasts. | |

John's. We drove up from North Myrtle Beach on a Saturday night, with Hurricane Ophelia hovering off the coast. We parked in the lot that about four restaurants share and our oldest daughter said, ''Let's try that one'', indicating Capt. John's. Wow. . .Great choice. My husband and daughter had the fantail shrimp and said it was the best shrimp they'd had in years! I had the flounder and it was great, too. The prices were very reasonable - better than our now ''old favorite'' in North Myrtle. When our younger daughter arrived later in the week, and the hurricane had blown on by, we headed back to Capt. John's on Thursday evening so she could try the fantastic shrimp her dad and sister had been raving about. There was some concern that it wouldn't be as good the second time - but no worries! They declared it ''Great'' again. We had eight dinners, all told, during the two visits - and all were very good. The hush puppies were hot and plentiful - a little different from most we've had, more of a dough base rather than a batter, but very good . . .top that off with baked potatoes and pitchers of sweet tea and you can't go wrong. There's a great view of the dock from many of the tables, too. We'll be returning again for sure
